Broke my iphone XS max 5 months ago and didn’t get it repaired until today, trying to restore it and every time i start the iphone it says ‘iphone unavailable’ without a time or an ‘emergency’ tab. Won’t connect to iTunes via macbook either. not sure what i can do.
No it wasn’t. Does this mean the phone is useless?
Follow the instructions very carefully, including when to plug in the phone to your computer. If it doesn’t work your phone was damaged in the process of replacing the screen.

It means that Apple will likely not help you if you take the phone to them. If the suggestions that other users offer here do not help, I think you are unfortunately at the end of the road.
