Can’t find anything on this.

I’m trying to add me to drive permission and it keeps telling me: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have the necessary permission.

I also want to take the user “wheel” and “Staff” out of permissions on the drive and it won’t let me.

I don’t even know who Wheel and Staff is nor how they got there.

How on earth do I fix this in Monterey???

It’s driving me nuts.

Those aren't users they are Groups and should be left alone. If you're not having any problems in your normal day to day operation you should ignore them.

Regular OS X users are put into the staff group. Admin users are put in the staff and admin groups. The admin group can do some things that other users cannot do. e.g. Write to the /Applications folder

The Wheel group, as in "A Big Wheel", meaning someone of importance and authority, is a group for administrators. Many files are part of the Wheel group with permissions that allow users in the Wheel group to access them, but would not allow other users without Wheel group access.

One must go into root user to get the wheel group.

Again, they are not users so leave them alone and ignore.

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

Additionally, and specific to Big Sur macOS 11 and Monterey macOS 12, the Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that can not be opened by the User or “ Bad Actor “ Software.

The Only thing this Antivirus software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

The The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS,  is an invitation for disaster and comprising the Operating System

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

This will include CleanMyMac , This will include BitDefender

This will included Norton Antivirus ,  Sophos Av Software Please read some of the many posting regarding this Application

Intego AntiVirus, McAfee, MacKeeper, Avast AntiVirus

Ad Guard, Webroot , ESET

What is the user attempting to achieve ?

Is this a New Issue ? If Yes, what exactly changed on this computer ?

Is this an Old Issue ? If Yes, what actions has the user taken to fix this issue ?

After all,  we do not what to suggest possible solutions for what has already been attempted by the User

Understand, we are all working Remotely from all around the world.

Therefore, we do not have the On-Hands experience the User ( you ) has with this computer.

Reliable , accurate, details and context will really help to pinpoint a possible solution.

Trying to delete wheel and staff users off my home Mac Mimi m1 drive.

when I first got my Mac mini those users weren’t there.

I can access the computer. I put Sophos protection on it. I ran antivirus and have no problems.

so how do I get rid of those users?

I just right click on drive and try to delete them and it won’t let me.

I went to recovery mode and did a csrutil disable in terminal and booted back up and still can’t delete them.

that’s where I’m at.
