Contact and Userid Images Disappearing

so I am testing something out. All my devices have been switched to google contacts for last few weeks w/o issue.

I have now switched my MBP back to iCloud contacts, and updated one of the contacts pictures (one of the contacts that was giving issue prior). day 2ish no issue. Going to give it another day before switching another device to iCloud contacts (probably iPad first then iPhone)

MS teams never had access to my contacts to begin with. This issue arose for me when I added my MBP to the mix. When I was trying to troubleshoot it (before switching to google) I had tried making a new "me" contact, tried deleted and recreating the troublesome contacts, and nothing helped. New contact profile pictures would reset, me contact would reset picture, and contacts that last their picture would have hashes added to the number.

Teams has been on my phone for years for work, never having contact access. Teams was never at any point on my Mac or iPad.

as with Netnemesis, 5 days without problems (no more image/icon deletion in Contacts & Mail on both iOS and OS Mac (all latest versions)

reinstalled Teams on Mac and no problems for 24 hrs

not sure I will reinstall Teams on iOS (as I only use it professionally on my MBP M1)

might wait for the upcoming iOS upgrade to try it out yet remembering it not giving access to my contacts on iOS

seems progress made, possibly problem solved (yet many contacts are now polluted with the X-mash nonsense...)

so quick update:

ive now transitioned both my Mac and now iPhone back to iCloud contacts (Mac first, then iPhone few days later). its been a couple days on each before bringing the next over. So far no issues. I have adjusted contact images (on my Mac) for a couple contacts, and added a new contact this morning on my iPhone. Will see how it handles this over next few days before potentially bringing iPad over (final device)

I think Teams was the cause of my issue as well, I removed it after my last post while cleaning up some stuff and my issue also has been gone for a while now. I thought the issue was with Outlook originally doing it.

so far so good on my end. All devices back on iCloud contact. Prior issue not popping back up yet (knock on wood)

I have had one really weird issue once switched my devices back to iCloud contact. I opened messages, went to create a new text , entered in name which pulled up the contact suggestion properly). I sent text. and then contact was...gone off my phone. Contact remained on iCloud.com, my Mac, my iPad, but...just gone off phone. I restarted phone, turn iCloud contacts off/on, nothing worked. Created new contact for said contact and it was fine. Just was a really 1 off issue I came across that I never have previously.

I have been following this thread for the past month because I was also having the same issues. Didn't have MS Teams but I did have other MS apps like Outlook and OneDrive. Haven't had the issue happen in at least 2 weeks, but I didn't delete any apps or change contacts permissions. It just randomly stopped doing it. I'm thinking it was a server issue either from MS or Apple that has since been fixed.

Good idea on the search for "X-". Also, I started deleting the contacts that were habitual offenders and recreated them. Going to see if that helps. I deleted them on iCloud.com, and reentered.

Updating Mac now. Anyone else confirm what Netnemesis states above?

I´m on MAC OS 12.5 and iOS and iPadOS 15.6. iCloud profile picture still disappears every day. Quite annoying.

Using both OneDrive and Signal. Might try to reset.....either that or wait for a fix (?). Thanks for the update!

have updated all my devices and can confirm this is still happening. It is driving me absolutely crazy that there appears to be no resolution or information from apple.
