Can't connect Apple MacBook Air M1 to Monitor with VGA Connector

Hi,

I have a MacBook Air (2020, M1) and I want to connect my monitor that only has a VGA connection. I have a USB-C to VGA adaptor. I plug in the USB-C/VGA adaptor to my MacBook Air and it does not connect to the monitor. I have a second monitor that has both HDMI and VGA options. On that monitor I CAN connect the HDMI port to my MacBook Air but cannot connect to it using the VGA port.

I do have the lates OS on my MacBook Air.

Should I be able to connect my MacBook Air to a monitor with a VGA connection? I don't want to purchase a new monitor. I am also hoping to connect both monitors to my MacBook Air.

Thanks for any help you can provide! Let me know if you need any other information.
