Mac desktop keyboard: left shift key opens desktop instead of capitalizing. I have 10.15.7. New keyboard doing the same thing. I've tried everything from resetting factory settings, and everything I can find on it in the forums, plus more. Is there a solution?

Please restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in the How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support link.
Note: If you are using a wireless keyboard please either plug it in using the supplied Lightning cable that shipped with it. If you are using a legacy keyboard or a third-party keyboard that does not have re-charging abilities, please use any USB keyboard. Also note that a Safe Mode restart may require you to hold down the shift key for up to 5 minutes before the computer starts in Safe Mode. You will know it is in Safe Mode when you see “Safe Mode” in the upper right of the display.
After restarting in Safe Mode, then restart normally and test.

Thank you so much dialabrain!! I have an older computer and it was under Keyboard and Mouse Shortcuts. It says Show Desktop and it was set to Left Control not Left Shift. I had checked that one before, but now I changed it to "-" and that worked! Hooray! Thanks for getting me on the right track!

Thank you for your advice. I was just getting set to do that, when I saw the next reply. It looked easier so I thought I would try
it first, and I finally found the setting I needed to changed. But I will keep your answer in mind in case I have more problems.

Check System Preferences > Mission Control. Make sure "Show Desktop" is not set to "Left Shift".
