Smart Playlists & Music Match: no sync due to "duplicate"

Greetings,

I'm trying to get a playlist to shuffle without repeating songs and artists so much.

I tried the suggestions here, and they seem to be working fine on my computer.

However, I'm also using Music Match and expected that smart playlist to show up on other devices.

It didn't.

Checking the status, as suggested elsewhere in help articles, I find it is considered "duplicate" and will not be sync'd.

I mean...

  • Following the suggestions, I created a smart playlist based on one of my other playlists, and limited plays to "not with XX days"
  • That playlist created, and has the desired outcome on my computer, and also has a "crossed out cloud" next to it
  • The crossed out cloud reportedly means duplicate, and it won't sync (by design).

Any suggestions for getting around this?

After all, one the one hand of *course* it's a duplicate. On the other hand, so what? I'm not actually asking for the same songs to be downloaded. Just a copy of simple play algorithm. Which *shouldn't* be a duplicate.

Or maybe I'm confused and the issues is actually about something else?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Quick follow up -

  • I attempted to limit the items so that there wouldn't be any duplicates. For example, I limited it to 10, and can clearly see there is no duplicate in that playlist.
  • Again - of *course* I have duplicates in my library. Many of my playlists have duplicates, and they don't have trouble.

I'm clearly missing something in my understanding!

Thanks...but I'm confused.

Yes, I linked to that same page in my question.

I understand what you're telling me, and I can see that it's not syncing. I guess you're telling me it *won't* sync. Ever.

So, do you have a suggestion for how to make the playlist more random? Along the lines of the earlier thread, that suggested smart playlists in the first place?
