Mac Pro to Dell U3014 monitor using Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to DisplayPort cable - No Image or Signal

Hello.

I just got a new Mac Pro and I'm trying to connect it to my Dell U3014 monitor.

I initially tried using a HDMI cable and it looked dreadful - pixelated and dull - so I'm trying to use the Displayport cable that I previously used to used to connect my MacBook Pro to the same monitor.

The cable has a DisplayPort (on monitor side) that runs to a Thunderbolt2, then I'm using an Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor to connect to the Mac Pro. I'm using one of the outputs on back. This is what the Apple Store employee suggested.

But the display is not picking up on the cable at all, there's a 'No DisplayPort Cable' message displayed.

Does anyone have any idea of where I'm going wrong here?

R.

it appears that display has HDMI, but one reviewer said it was inadequate for maximum resolution.

It also has DVI, but since it is wider than 1920 wide, it would require a Dual-Link DVI, rather expensive.

It has DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort (ThunderBolt-2 subset but does not work with the adapter you have).

I recommend a USB-C [computer-end} to DisplayPort (or Mini DisplayPort) adapter and cable. Here is one adapters that will work:

Monoprice Consul Series USB-C DisplayPort Adapter - Product # 35503 -$13.99

You'll need cable as well, unless you have one:

Monoprice Select Series DisplayPort 1.4 Cable, 6ft Black - Product # 31181 - $10.49
