Hundreds of Mac OS users in forums are complaining about the mouse lag that first appeared with an upgrade to Monterey. There is no mention of this being addressed with the latest update to 12.5. None of the solutions offered by forum members seem to help. I am going to go forward with the update to 12.5 and hope that it is resolved — but until Apple directly addresses the issue, there is no reason to believe it has been resolved.

@JMcGee2018, doesn't that keyboard come with a USB unifying receiver, so you don't necessarily have to use Bluetooth? My current work around for this issue is using an Apple wireless keyboard, which I run wired 95% of the time, which is obviously not an ergonomic keyboard ... when running in Bluetooth it has occasional hiccups and even as a developer, for me, it's easier to overlook that it'll fine, fine, fine ... entire word delayed, etc... The mouse side of things is totally unacceptable for me. So, on that front, I use a Logitech M720 triathlon mouse. In Bluetooth mode it's fairly useless. But using the unifying receiver it's really very good EXCEPT, my computer is remote from the mouse with an external monitor, so I have a usb extension to bring the receiver closer to the mouse and it works very well.
The receiver is on a usb extension to a hub and really has no issues.
Side note: reasonable to point out that if the ~2.4ghz receiver needs and extension wouldn't the Bluetooth (also ~2.4ghz) need an extension to work well? Maybe, but that's a separate issue as even if my mouse is any range from the computer it's still effectively useless due to these intermittent lag issues. I have tested that with this specific mouse and others when I'm on the go.

Just noticed this happening today - and I thought it was the clunky dock I use (Hyper) to overcome M1's GARBAGE limited monitor support (this is an Apple system software issue that Apple are too lazy to address - i.e. lack of MST support is SOFTWARE issue not a HARDWARE issue) - I thought it was the InstantView software lagging cursor movement on my monitor - but then I noticed it was the same on my other monitor, on my "work" MacBook (pro M1) screen, and on my other "personal" MacBook Pro M1 when using Unviversal Control (and please don't get me started on that!).
Anyway - I noticed it wasn't happening when I used the Magic TrackPad 2 - zero symptoms there. The mouse I was using is a Microsoft Surface mouse. So I tried an Apple Magic Mouse (original) and - get the same thing - hideous lag when I move the cursor...
Unacceptable!
I remember similar symptoms around July last year with Big Sur on my personal MacBook Pro M1 - but can't remember how I resolved it... All I remember is that it was right PITA, and I spent what felt like hours unpairing and re-pairing over BT...
Let me add my voice to the choir. I have spent countless hours trying to fix this issue. The time I've wasted doing the tech support AND sitting waiting for my mouse to GET TO WORK is incredibly frustrating. There is quite clearly a QA issue in the Bluetooth stack or specifically in the mouse driver. (As @Brian0527 pointed out external track pads are unaffected by the issue).
Fingers crossed for an interim maintenance patch from Apple. (Please please please)
In front of me is a brand new Mac Studio M1 with current Monterey. And of course it has the same problem.
However, my mouse is connected to the computer via cable and the problem does not occur constantly, but sporadically. It can be that there is nothing for several hours, then again the problem of the sluggish cursor occurs for several minutes, or even several times a day, so that you can not work properly.
And I'm pretty ****** that Apple doesn't seem to have done anything to fix the problem. You pay thousands of Euros for a new computer and then you can't work with it properly for a while. And I don't believe that such problems always only occur with the users. Don't the guys at Apple actually use Macs?
We are already on Monterey 12.6, and this issue is just getting worse. Now you use a MacBook pro as it was a MacBook from the 2000s. It is awful because at first glance you think that you have software running in the background, you open the Activity Monitor, restart the computer, and nothing helps. Then you decide to search on the Internet and learn that there are many users with the same problem related to the OS, and it is worse, it is happening for a while, and Apple doesn't care about it. Just keep going with those fluffy things because they just want to sell computers, insurance, subscriptions, etc. It is unbelievable how this company is just becoming the new expensive Microsoft.
For clarity, if you're observing a constant ticking / lag (as with a lower refresh rate), I don't think this is the same issue that most are talking about here. That I could probably get used to. It's a very inconsistent lag for me. It'll be fine for seconds, minutes, hours and then lag for variable amounts of time so you over shoot / undershoot or just otherwise miss what you meant to click on.
I notice that the problem only exists for me on the second monitor when both monitors are mirrored. The computing monster mac Studio M1 is not able to display the mouse pointer on the second monitor continuously without these graphical problems. Every day several times the cursor stutters across the screen.
All monitors are connected to the computer via Thunderbolt. Each has its own connector.
So this seems to me to be a problem with the graphics unit in the computer, which keeps getting disturbed by some process. But I could not find the cause.
I'm also getting this even when connected via wired USB to my Magic Trackpad.
Also tried disconnecting the USB3 hub in the room. no change tried it with both my magic trackpads ( v2 )
this is on my Mac mini 2018 with Monterey.
[UPDATE] , another point - unlike before - *now* I am currently writing this upstairs and my Mac is downstairs- and not getting the jitter - I'm able to do this as I have an optical fibre (corning ) thunderbolt 3cable running from the Mac downstairs to my caldigit thunderbolt dock upstairs which is connected to the second monitor upstairs.
but the problem was actually downstairs where the monitor and trackpad are in the room next to the Mac - with open sliding doors between the two rooms ( the Mac is in the other room to minimise fan noise ) - maybe the mini has better bluetooth strength above it ( the room above where im typing is directly above the room below with the mc mini ) than side to side.. dunno.. weird. - as theres a big open air gap ( sliding doors ) between the side by side rooms downstairs where the issue arises ( even with wired USB to the trackpad )

Using a 16" MacBook Pro M1 Pro, Mac OS 12.6.1 and a Magic Mouse and my operating system is recurrently having decreased refresh rates with cursor rendering.
Putting my mac to sleep and waking it up temporarily fixes the problem–until it arrives again. However, I would expect my cursor to function normally in a 4000€ "pro" machine. If the issue is not fixed by the next update, I'm filing a complaint.
Dang! I thought it had stopped only for it to happen again today!
It's UNACCEPTABLE! It's happened several times - the delay is so noticeable, I'm clicking on something under the cursor, but by the time the click registers, the cursor's in a difference place because the lag makes me think I've arrived at my destination, but Apple says my destination was somewhere else!
NEVER EVER happens with the same mouse on a Linux system.
I use a Logitech G502 Lightspeed mouse and the Powerplay mouse pad, so I opened up a ticket with Logitech about the bad mouse lag issue since upgrading to macOS Monterey. Logitech says their hardware and software are not the issue and that its Apple's issue.
I've tried hard wiring the mouse and it doesn't remove the lag. I use an Apple Wireless Keyboard and that has a lag at times with typing, tabbing through applications, etc...
Clicking my mouse takes about 1-2 seconds for the OS to realize. Dragging a window, or marquee selection has a 1-2 second delay before it starts and then goes very slow and speeds up real fast to catch up to my latest movement. Using my MacBook Pro's built in trackpad works fine without an issue, but it's a pain to use the laptop trackpad with a 4 display setup.

I had heard / read the same thing so I turned off everything that could have been introducing interference and then did all the Apple recommended resets and cache clears. No improvement noticed.
I had no problems with 12.4 but 12.5 has made my mac seem like a Jalopy. I have 2020 iMac, wired mouse, 96 GB memory with less then 30 GM used and mouse lag is terrible. I ran CleanMyMac X, rebooted and it seemed good for maybe 5 minutes and then back to the same lag. Hopefully they fix this as it should not be happening on this machine.
It's somewhat heartening to know I'm not the only person who has this problem. I'm running an older iMac 27" from mid-2017 and recently upgraded to Monterey (fresh install). The mouse lag is perplexing - it's like the mouse loses connection on a semi-regular basis. The Magic Trackpad works fine - consistent, as designed, but the Magic Mouse 2 for whatever reason is erratic as all get out. The hardware is all the same, the mousepad is the same, the only thing that has changed is the operating system.
This is happening to me on a wired mouse. I don't think this is Bluetooth related. It has to be something with the WindowServer. It's getting worse, at this time I'm just hoping that the new Mac Os Ventura doesn't come with this issue.
This is nuts and absolutely unacceptable. Where are the techs on this? I'm going to throw my MBP in a dumpster pretty quick here and get a Windows machine or Chromebook. It's affecting my work performance.
