iphone 12 touch screen slow or unresponsive in mail app

This problem occurs only in the mail app all other programs/apps seem to be perfectly ok.

I open the mail app onto all inboxes (I have 3) and they all show no mail. After a few seconds they populate but touching a mail item produces no immediate response. After around 3-4 seconds the mail item appears. On return to the inbox there are gaps in the mail lists which again populate after a few seconds or sometimes (not always) when I scroll up or down.

I often delete mail directly from the inbox list but left to right swiping is again very slow to respond, up to 5 seconds. It initially appears not to have worked at all but after a few seconds the item disappears.

I’ve tried resetting my phone using both a normal power off and also using the up/down volume buttons then holding the power button but the problem remains.

The problem started yesterday. My iOS is up to date and has not been updated recently. Any suggestions or comments would be gratefully received.

Does the same thing happen when checking your Mail from a computer.... this would be informative.

Can you verify there are no IMAP server issues with your Provider..(?) Server issues are beyond you control.

If this is a temporary server issue, then I would simply wait it out or report to who ever supplies your email account.

If you can't receive email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Hello and thank you. Yes, I think you’re right as now (a day later) it all seems to be operating ok. Coincidentally I had to reset my BTInternet email prior to the problem occurring and resetting BT Mail usually requires a manual update. I wondered if I’d got the IMAP server settings wrong but couldn’t understand how this might affect the IOS Mail app as a whole.

The problem was limited to my iPhone. The Mail app on my iPad did not have the same problem not did accessing Mail through iCloud for Windows on my PC.

Anyway it all seems to be ok now but I’m still puzzled as to what happened and whether it was something I did, in which case how has it resolved itself and might I do it again in future.

Thanks again for your reply and your helpful suggestions.
