I noticed in 15.5, that my 2x camera only works in pano, portrait, slow-mo, and time-lapse modes. (Tested by covering each lens in each mode.). Since it works in some modes, I'm ruling out a hardware issue with the camera. I've tried all the commonly posted solutions (killing all apps, power cycling, and even upgraded to latest versionn 15.6). Still no fix. Is this a known problem with IOS? Any fix?

Interesting that the optical zoom works in some modes and not others. One thing you could try is a force restart, if you're so inclined.
As you've tried everything I can suggest, your best bet is likely to contact Apple Support or find a nearby licensed service provider.

sjzack ~ Enter the name of the battery shop at the link below. If it doesn't show a big green ✅, you've almost certainly got a fake battery put in by a fake technician. Have the battery replaced properly and then reassess the camera's functionality.

What happens when you try using the standard photo and video modes?
I can zoom, but it is a digital zoom on the 1x camera rather than the 2x camera. (That's what brought it to my attention, the quality of the zoomed image was poor compared to what it used to be when the 2x camera worked.)
Yeah, thanks. Tried all those things. Not as inclined to try tech support since it's apparently an OS issue. That's something they should pay for, not me. Seems quality control at IOS development is falling. Glad I didn't shell out for a new iphone 13, yet.
IDK - it was a battery shop. Haven't observed any other ill effects. And only observed camera issues since 15.5 upgrade. Gotta say, this sounds like a way to dismiss the issue for someone with an older phone. Disappointing. 2nd disappointing event from Apple after my butterfly keyboard failure. I've been a diehard apple fan up to now. But they're starting to lose their shine for me.
That doesn't really explain why the 2x camera would work in some modes, but not others. Nor why it worked prior to 15.5. I'm a career software engineer by trade. This smells like a software problem to me.
p.s. also tried resetting all settings.
In photo and video mode, it only uses the 1x camera regardless of the magnification setting. (This is _not_ a black screen issue.)
So to be clear, you cannot zoom in on the standard photo setting?
New(ish) battery - 100% - had it replaced a few months back. How would that be relevant?
