Battery drain since iOS 15.6 is ridiculous

Q:

Battery since iOS update

Since updating to iOS 15.6 on Tuesday , the battery on my phone 12 Pro, is running down super fast .

ive turned off all notifications, all background app refresh

, close all apps straight after use, turned off location, even Bluetooth, but it showing my photos app is running in background for hours and hours.

how do I fix this.

as a hiker the phone is now useless as it lasts a max of 2/3 hours with Strava running, all because of the background photos drain on the battery

As everyone posting in this thread is just complaining, and no one is willing to consider troubleshooting their problem, I’m giving up.

My last advice:

  • Apple doesn’t read ASC looking for issues; this is a user to user forum, so saying that “Apple must do something” is as effective as shouting it into the Grand Canyon.
  • If you want to passively let Apple know, use this link→Product Feedback - Apple. They will record your issue, but won’t respond.

It doesn’t make sense. I just got my iPhone 11 and the battery is draining like crazy. If even new phones are doing it then I would definitely bet on it being the update for a lot of people

If you just got your phone, it's most likely still doing some background updates and indexing. You'll need to wait several days before you can get an accurate idea of battery life.

Not so sure you are right here Lawrence. My Wife's Iphone 6s plus has gone from usable to unusable with this update.

I've checked every setting, looked at battery usage that shows the battery going from a night charge 100% to close to 5% in under 2 hours, yet the phone doesn't show any obvious candidate for the drain, safari was the highest on 'battery usage by app' but it had barely been used - this was a period of minimal usage.

Same result after many days of overnight charge (and optimised battery charging is enabled, always has been).

According to the phone's presentation of the data it is 'like' it has evaporated - though I know it's impossible, just something is draining it, but ios 15.6 is not recording or showing what it is.

Never seen anything like it

rwps ~ With an older model such as the 6s Plus, an obvious candidate for the drain is a weak, aging battery...

Does the iPhone 6s Plus still have its original battery?

And what's the Maximum Capacity % here?...

the bit that seems to be missing here is that the phone has consistently worked well lasting all day with regular use, only minor degradation of its battery life that was not impacting or being noticed.

Building in obsolesnce via an update seems to be excused by some as acceptable. Our world can't afford so much waste.

I am having a similar problem with excess battery drainage on two iPhone 12 pro maxes, an iPad Pro, and an iPad Pro second generation. I am using AT&T in St. Louis, Missouri. My problem started after installing iOS 15.6.1 and updating my apps. I am getting as much as 3.5 GB per day of "Settings > Cellular> System Services> Push Notifications", and my (otherwise healthy) battery requires unusually frequent recharging. I turned off all app Notifications (except Phone and Messages), and all background app refresh. Also, at Apple Support's suggestion, in Privacy>Location Services>System Services, I turned off several location related System Services (such as Location Based Alerts). This has not worked to stop the Push Notification data hemorrhage. Phone calls to Apple Support on 8/21/22 and 8/22/22 also failed to solve the problem. So far, the only way to stop the Push Notifications is to turn off Cellular Data, which defeats the main purpose of having a mobile smart phone. Even after stopping Cellular Data, I have noticed unusually rapid battery depletion if Wi-Fi is turned on. Please check your Push Notifications. If that is your problem, perhaps Apple Support will be able to help you.

IOS 15.5 and 15.6 totally ruined my experience. Moving from 14.8 couple of months ago, I’ve now lost 7% battery health and have to charge my phone twice a day. I’m seriously consider moving to Sony pro series.

Xs Max, purchased in Jan 2020, brand new. I hardly use my phone, original factory battery, I mainly use my ipad. I was on 14.8 for a long time and my battery lasted at almost twice longer than what it is now. Battery health was 98% on 14.8. Then upgraded to 15.5 when released losing 2% health. I had horrible battery drain on 15.5 then upgraded to 15.6 and losing further 3% battery health with it. Now battery health is at 93% and my daily usage hasn’t changed. I have lost 5% battery health between two IOS releases. Seriously, something is wrong here. Yes, my battery may degrade over time but I hardly even use it and my phone looks still as pristine condition following best charging practices as I can. I truly regret upgrading to ios 15. Worst experience for me ever.
