radius hardware authentication not working in 12.5 update

We use radius hardware authentication to authentication to our wireless. The authentication is done via a security group in active directory. This was working fine until one of our macs updated to Monterey 12.5. Now it will no longer authenticate via hardware and automatically prompts for a user name and password. Does anyone know what is causing this in 12.5? What changed?

Borden504,

At this point you'll want to contact either the manufacturer of your RADIUS server or Microsoft for Active Directory. They'd be in the best position to assist further with addressing the conflict with that particular Mac.

If needed, you can also use a Time Machine backup to return the Mac to a prior version of macOS: Use macOS Recovery on a Mac with Apple silicon - Apple Support

Take care.

Hey Sheree_P,

Those do not help unfortunately. I am the system admin for my company and I set this up. So basically we have all of our Macs connecting to the company wifi and authenticating with a radius server using WPA EAP. I set this up to use the share name as the authentication and it verifies with a security group in Active Directory. If that doesn't work I have a backup authentication of user name and password that authenticates with their login credentials in AD. Every Mac we have have profiles pushed to them via JamF. Everything was working perfectly until our HR Director updated his Mac to Monterey 12.5. Now when connecting to that SSID it prompts for a user name and password. I verified the issue is with the 12.5 update. There are no event logs of it denying or even trying to connect with the share name of the Mac. The console on the Mac shows nothing related when looking at it after trying to connect. Something changed in the 12.5 update and I cannot figure out what it was. I have tried finding what was done in the update but all the information I can find doesn't help. I see there were two updates to Wi-Fi in 12.5 but I cannot find the specifics. I know this is a unique issue but hopefully someone can shed some light on it because I am out of ideas.

Hey KiltedTim,

Yes I have. I have also tried removing the profiles and completely removing it from JamF and then adding it back. We found something saying it could be antivirus related so I removed that as well but no luck. My test machine is basically a clean install of the OS and it would work fine in Catalina, Big Sur and Monterey, but once I update it to Monterey 12.5 it stops working.

Hey theRealCHCApple,

No I have not. I tried hunting down all of the information on what was changed in the update but that has not proved to be useful. We were going to wait and see what the next update did but it doesn't sound like there will be one. Just whatever the next OS is coming out fall sometime. It is like the network policy for hardware authentication is being completely ignored by the OS. It was a pain to get all of it setup. Would be a shame if it just won't work anymore.
