iOS mail slow to load

Every time I open my mail app, it takes a minute or longer for my mail messages to load. I have a number of email accounts but didn’t change any of the settings when this started happening and it seems to be getting worse. I have the same email accounts on my iPad and the emails load immediately when I open the app. I’ve uninstalled the app and restarted my phone but that hasn’t helped.
