Apple TV accepts new wifi name then skips password reject message

Devise: Apple TV model A1469 generation 3 with the original small silver remote.

The remote works properly. Software is up to date.

Modem is a CenturyLink C4000LG that is WiFi 6g certified ready.

Situation: My DSL network has a new router/modem with a new WiFi name and password.

Task: Update my network WiFi name and password for Apple TV.

Problem: After selecting the new wifi name Apple TV skips past password entry and displays "incorrect password" message.

Message reads: There was a problem connecting to the internet. The wifi password you entered is incorrect. Try again (-3900)

What I've done:

On Apple TV I've selected Settings, General, Network, selected my new wifi name from the i list.

When I pressed enter the "incorrect password" message displayed.

Next I selected "Other" from the wifi list and entered the wifi name and password manually.

Curiously, Apple TV did allow me to enter the name And password before displaying the "incorrect password" message.

I restarted Apple TV. Restart changed nothing. When wifi name is selected Apple TV still skips password entry and gives "incorrect password" message.

I have successfully updated the wifi name and password on my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro.

The wifi security type is WPA2-personal.

I appreciate any information that will help solve this enigma.

Thank you

Hello Debbie Mc,

This page here can help to provide some steps for issues with the Apple TV not connecting to Wi-Fi: If your Apple TV can't connect to Wi-Fi - Apple Support

In particular, try the following from the "If there's a problem connecting to the network, or if you get a password error" section:

On the Apple TV menu, go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi. Select your current Wi-Fi network and click Forget Network. Press Menu or the Back button on your Apple TV Remote. Then select Network again and select your Wi-Fi network to connect.

Cheers.
