I have two older Apple keyboards that up worked until Monterey 12.5

I have two older Apple keyboards that up worked perfectly until I installed the most recent Monterey 12.5 on my Mac Mini and Macbook Pro 2019. Now neither Mac will recognize the older keyboard (three battery) and it takes multiple steps to get either mac to automatically recognize the newer of the two (two battery). Is this Apple's planned obsolescence policy to get me to buy a new keyboard or am I missing a trick?
