After my apple tv ios 15.6 upgrade, my apple tv remote no longer controls volume on the connected homepod - i can only control volume via siri. how do I get back to using volume control on the remote? The remote volume only seems to adjust the sound on the TV itself, but I don't use that - only the HomePod.
Are your HomePods connected to AirPlay with the Apple TV? The only time mine appears to not control the HomePods is if they somehow disconnected and I need to select them again to AirPlay to.
If none of the above works, then you can reset the HomePods and set them up again

You should be able to set the remote up to control the HomePod by pressing the Menu and Home buttons on the remote and it should bring up a menu and show you the audio outputs. Select the HomePod volume to control from there.

Agree that that SHOULD work, and the applicable HomePod is selected, but the remote simply changes the volume on the TV, which is NOT set as the output device for audio, so makes no difference at all in the volume.
Other suggestions?
I have no reset it. It responds to voice commands - just not to the AppleTV remote any longer. (It seems to have stopped responding to the remote around the time of the latest Apple TV IOS upgrade.)
Your link to reset instructions says I should only reset when I want to reset it to factory settings, etc. Still think I need to reset?
Well, I'm not exactly sure what worked. I did pull up the Home app and try starting the HomePod from there. Anyway, now, I started my Apple TV, and volume control controls the HomePod again. I'll mark a couple of answers that seemed to get closest.

It is possible that your Remote is faulty. Maybe try the iOS Remote app to see if that works?
