Apple Watch not syncing with iMac

I've updated my calendar on my iMac, but half an hour later and it hasn't synced with my Apple Watch. I have up to 20 calendar appointments every day and really need my watch to be on top of these so that I can work. Sole purpose of buying the thing! I don't want to have to do everything via my phone – surely everything should sync via iCloud immediately? Everything connected to wifi obvs. Thanks

I'm afraid, without the iPhone you can't sync your calendar from your Mac to your Apple Watch:

...

The Calendar app on your Apple Watch shows events you’ve scheduled or been invited to today and for the next week. Your Apple Watch shows events for all calendars on your iPhone or just those calendars you choose. See the iPhone User Guide for information about setting up the Calendar app on your iPhone.
