Trying to confirm my device password on my new macbook air

Just received my new MacBook Air and have set it up and signed into my apple account. Under my settings there is a "to do" in the Overview tab. The action required is "Confirm Device Password". I have clicked on Continue, the following pops up: "Confirm your device passcode to keep using iCloud. This passcode also protects access to data stored in iCloud." and I click on Continue again. A small screen pops up but immediately disappears. It seems that I am not able to actually enter my device password. Any ideas?

Issue - MacBook Air (new 2022) is asking me to confirm "Confirm Device Password - to continue using iCloud". Except clicking continue doesn't allow me to do this. This is causing an issue as my new MacBook Air (new) is not syncing with my other older MacBook Air (2020). I see this is an issue that has not been fixed since August 2022. Please advise.

This could be way off base, I'm not a techy just an irritated user. Could it possibly be connected with the setup where you are asked to choose the sign in password and make sure it's not your Apple ID? I setup my new MacBook Air M2 from a previous (old 2014) MacBook earlier this year, and the old laptop was set up using my Apple ID password to sign in. When setting up i remember being asked to choose a different password to sign in to the new Mac (NOT my Apple ID password), although i don't recall being asked for the Apple ID as well I guess must have been asked at some point (I just followed instructions to setup the new laptop, setup from old device is usually so good I didn't think to note the steps because there's never normally a problem down the line). Please ignore if this is a daft comment because iCloud is working and synching okay, it's just the persistent "confirm device password" popup that never goes anywhere after you click on it which is the irritating thing.
