Unable to "export to GIF"

I finally figured out how to export a live photo as a GIF. On your iPhone, you have to change the Live Photo to Loop or Bounce. Then in Photos on your Mac, you'll be able to export the image as a GIF.

There is no option to export a photo as a gif in Photos for Mac. Where are you seeing the greyed out GIF option? Are you on your iPhone. If so then you've asked the question in the wrong forum.

Export a Live Photo as an animated GIF image

In the Photos app

 on your Mac, select a Live Photo.

2. Click Export in the toolbar, or choose File > Export > Export GIF.

3. Choose a location to export to, then click Export.

A live photo is not going to magically export as an animated gif.

A live photo will transfer from your iPhone to your Mac where you can view it there as a "live photo."

you would see this in the upper left hand corner of your Photo on your Mac in the Photo.app

FWIW, I checked three of my Macs, two Intel and an M1, all running Monterey or later. Export GIF is greyed out for me as well on all of them.

As I mentioned in my post, Exporting to GIF does not seem to be working. Plus there's nothing under "Change a Live Photo in Photos on Mac" about exporting a live photo as a GIF.
