How to protect palm from sharp edge of MacBook Air 2022?

I use my MacBook Air in my lap. I have no issue with typing but working the touch pad my right palm is getting cut into by the sharp edge of the base. I know some do not have this problem, some do.

A strip of tape along the edge may do it, or taping/gluing a piece of soft vinyl may work, but if there is a pop on case for the MacBook Air, it may solve my problem. I won't be filing the edge as suggested by some. (I think they may be joking) A case would be more than needed but I'd rather use a case to cover the edge than sticky tape or a glued on strip.

I have not found such a case yet. It would be something like an Otter Box snap on tray case for phones, I guess. I don't know if the 2022, MacBook Air's 11 and 15/16th width is different a base width from earlier models.

Please suggest a case or other ideas of how to keep the sharp edge from cutting into the palm.

Thanks.

I made a temp fix on the sharp edge. I put a strip of that thick plastic double stick thick tape (with no glue, it just sticks like it has glue glue) then put a strip of soft vinyl over that. This covers the sharp edge but is too thick. I can pull it off and try to cut a bevel on its edge or maybe just get used to it. Next try will be a sliver of packing tape over the sharp edge.

I've owned 5 laptops and never had a problem using them like this. I really like typing on this little MacBook. It is using the touch pad is the irritating problem. Funny, I did not notice it till about the 5th day, after delivery, of massive hours on it moving files and getting use to the Mac OS and apps. Then it went from irritation to pain. I am disabled and mostly confined to an adjustable bed. I don't want to let this sharp edge on the base keep me from my little window to the world.

I cannot imagin filing on this machine to get the sharp edge down. I don't think my area has a service that could do it with precision either. With so many having the same problem, (found them all over the net), maybe Apple with come up with a solution...uh maybe not.

Yes, the are not correct and can't be corrected. Alien tape is working well with cloth cover over the double stick 2mm thick tape. The edge of the lid (not the screen) is what touches the now two palm rests I put on the laptop with a wrap around section on the right for touch pad functions. If I were sitting at table/desk I could use better positioning. This laptop is used in the lap in a reclining position therefore wrists down and on the machine. I suspect there are quite a few users who do the same. Never had a problem with other brands that had rounded edges.

Steve Jobs would probably say "you're typing wrong" 😜

Apple trivia: they don't market portable Macs as laptops, perhaps for this reason, perhaps for other reasons. No one knows. Sometimes we have to read between the lines.

Filing the case edge will remove the anodizing, exposing bare aluminum that corrodes easily, especially with prolonged skin contact. If it's not performed with extreme care, the filings could migrate into the keyboard, possibly causing major damage that AppleCare won't cover. It's an ugly solution.

I wouldn't use a case either:

My PC Dell is sitting here idle. What a huge heavy clunky thing compared to this lil Mac. It is of very poor build quality and should have been sent back right after it arrived years ago. I have returned to Apple after a 32 years absence. My first ones were an Apple II Plus, IIe, IIc, IIgs, Macintosh 1st run, later Macintosh 9" B&W with a hard drive and I got to borrow the first Mac B&W laptop.

A funny was that Apple shipped the very first Macs in a state that was unusable. There had to be an immediate upgrade to 512 K memory and a second floppy drive.

I had thought Apple would win the war of who would conquer the world with their OS and the little 9" B&W Mac was all business would ever need. Then came the net and things got crazy. Microsoft won the OS war, and once retired, needing a laptop I went PC due to price. Mac has finally come out with a contender against products like XPS Dell. I could probably get by with my android phone, but playing with this MacBook Air is my all day hobby each day.

Home made hand rest is doing okay, but I would like to see a better solution that does even a better job.
