Voice memos app taking 335GB. Storage Bug

My device (7+) has 128GB of storage and it only filled 73GB (2nd picture) which is the real value. But it says that I have 335GB of voice recordings. I can't do a backup to iCloud or to my laptop as it runs out of space because even my laptop thinks these figures are true. I already tried deleting and reinstalling the voice memo app, deleting safari browser data, restarting my phone several times, resetting all the settings, signing in and out from apple id, deleting previous iCloud backups, and deleting voice memos. Is there a solution?

Hello dilan101,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's sync your device with a computer and check to see if it still shows the same storage issue on your computer:

"Sync or remove content using iTunes

  1. Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Click the device icon in the top left-hand corner of the iTunes window. Find out what to do if you can't see the icon
  3. From the list under Settings on the left-hand side of the iTunes window, click the type of content that you want to sync or remove.* To turn syncing on for a content type, tick the box next to Sync.
  4. Select the tick box next to each item that you want to sync.
  5. Click the Apply button in the bottom right-hand corner of the window. If syncing doesn't start automatically, click the Sync button."

More details can be found here: Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad or iPod with your computer

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? When did you first notice this? Also, what is your exact iOS version?

Cheers!

dilan101,

Thanks for the updated information. What you can do, is reset all settings on your iPhone, instead of doing a full restore.

Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support

"

  1. Go to Settings  > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
  2. Choose an option:
  3. WARNING: If you choose the Erase All Content and Settings option, all of your content is removed. See Erase iPhone.
    • Reset All Settings: All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted."

Take care.

Hello Omar_A1, Thank you for the reply. I'm currently running iOS 15.6. I tried removing content such as music but it is still the same. iTunes shows the storage values correctly. But not on my iPhone. I first noticed the error after the backup failed message shown a few days ago. It said that there is not enough storage on iCloud even though I had a 200GB storage plan and I had plenty of storage (about 150GB free). That's when I noticed that the backup is exceeding 200GB. My iPhone only has 65GB of content. I suspect this error occurred after the latest software update.

Currently, I'm trying to backup to the iCloud without voice memos. It does seem to work. If I reset the device after backup and restore the backup, will it fix the issue? Is it worth a try?
