One USB C port stops charging on Monterey 12.5

I have recently seen one of my USB port C unable to charge my battery on my 2017 MacBook Pro until I do a hard restart. I am wondering if it is a software bug introduced by Monterey.

I find the contacts inside the USB-C ports tend to become corroded from bits of liquid getting inside the port (they seem like magnets for liquid in my personal experience with our organization's Macs). These ports also tend to become oxidized as well which can make for a poor connection. Sometimes connecting & disconnecting a cable multiple times will clean the connector enough to allow it to work.

Each USB-C port also has its own dedicated chip on the Logic Board to control power & data.

AFAIK, the firmware has no bearing on the basic capability of powering or charging the laptop as that all must be controlled by the hardware circuitry. The firmware may perhaps have some minor impact on things, but firmware won't affect the basic charging/power process.

That may be true, but firmware updates for hardware are included in software updates on Monterey, but I guess the other information that may support your analysis is that it is always the same USB C port that has the issue and it is always resolved by a power off and power on. I am always able to charge from any of the other USB C ports on this hardware when it does fail. The frequency for this issue is very rare and only recently started occurring. I did apply the latest update to Monterey 12.5.1 tonight after seeing the all firmware updates are now distributed via these updates.
