Camera is blurry on Macbook air m2

Does that still persist after using the steps below to verify you are updated to the latest macOS Monterey 12.5.1?

1. Before continuing, it's a good idea to back up your Mac.

2. From the Apple menu  in the corner of your screen, choose System Preferences.

3. Click Software Update in the System Preferences window. Can't find Software Update?

4. Software Update now checks for new software.

• If Software Update finds new software, click Update Now or Upgrade Now to install. You might be asked to restart or enter an administrator password.

• If Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, then no new software is currently available for your Mac model.

Do you experience the same behavior with other apps such as Photo Booth?

It looks like you need to have good lighting coming from the front of the your laptop and it is not an issue. Were you using in a dimly lit room? I was was first time I was setting it up and then once I moved to a brighter room it was not an issue.

The solution is: get a ring light or at least a very lightened space when using it, the camera will be pretty good. I did it for my Macbook M1 and M2, the M1 is still terrible, while M2 is a clear and quality image.

Just made a test. The ring light is the solution. If you use a very light space, the camera is pretty good. I compared the same light and position of my MacBook M2 and M1 camera, and the M1 even in the front of the ring light has low quality.

Yeah, I updated to ventura and it’s much better than before! but it didn’t live up to the expectations :( My iPad Pro from 2020 still wins the race

Upgraded from a 2015 Macbook Air to the M2 specifically for the high res camera. And it's much worse than before! Have explored various lighting strategies but it's still worse than the M1. I have advised others in the market for the new M2 that they will have a major downgrade in video quality. Any response from Apple yet?

Yes. My early 2014 Air's camera is MUCH clearer than the 2022's camera. I checked them side-by-side in the same room, with the same lighting, at the same time. In natural light and artificial light.

Updating to Ventura made a slight difference, disabling Portrait mode in Control Centre helped a bit, but 1080p clarity only appears when I face direct, near-blinding sunlight -- for FaceTime, and Photo Booth. The rest of the time it's barely decent.

I just feel the visible downgrade from the older models (for something specifically marketed as an improvement) is unacceptable at this price.

I just bought macbook air m2 yesterday, "upgrading" from a macbook pro 2019. The camera is awful, this can't be right, something is wrong here. This blurry behaviour its really noticeable I cant believe they put it on production like this! Guys this an expensive machine you should do something about it asap

Same happened to me also i was having macbook air 2017 i5 5th gen and its 720p camera seems better that macbook air m2 1080p.

I just got my MacBook M2 today and updated to Ventura and the camera quality in Photo booth and facetime is very grainy. Please advise.

That happened to me too.

I bought it today and the camera was working great in full HD. After the OS update the resolution of the camera went pretty bad.

Same thing happened to me! I just got my MB Air M2 and the camera is so grainy on both the FaceTime and PhotoBooth! Is there anything we can do about it?

Yes, my point exactly. The quality of the camera is visibly lower than my previous Macbook Air from 2015!!!

They keep boasting about an ''amazing'' camera quality, but the reality is simple different!

I have a MB Pro M1 and I have to say the camera is terrible. In low light it is not very good but in optimal light the focus is always out. How can Apple release such a terrible product. I've very upset by the fact that I'll have to buy a new webcam for my laptop. My ancient iPhone is way better!! Seriously Apple !!! Do better or you will lose me and others as customers.
