Macbook Pro M1 Max with external display issues

Hey guys,

So I have my Macbook Pro M1 Max 16" and I have the following setup: I'm using an external monitor connected on Thunderbolt and I am keeping my Mac with the lid closed.

When I have my power connected to the Macbook, I can close the lid, the monitor will remain turned on and everything is fine.

But because I want sometimes to use it on battery, to not keep it at 100% all the time, I want to use my Macbook on battery, with the lid closed and monitor turned on, but as soon as I close the lid, the monitor will turn off too.

So I have found this command "sudo pmset disablesleep 1" which kind of solves the issue. Now I can keep my Macbook on battery, with the lid closed and my monitor will remain turned on, but and here is the issue... after a few minutes, when the monitor will turn off, I can't wake it up with my bluetooth mouse or keyboard (I am using Satechi mouse & keyboard).

If I have the Macbook on power, the mouse will wake up the monitor, no issues, but while on battery, it will not.

On Big Sur, at bluetooth settings, it was an Advanced button, to tick a box for "allow bluetooth devices to wake up this Mac", but on Monterey, there is no such button.

So now, can anyone help me with a trick, or a command, to make this work?

Or another option would be to keep the Macbook on battery, with the lid open, because like this if the Macbook goes into sleep, the mouse will wake it up, but being a photographer, I don't want to have the Macbook display on, while I'm using the monitor.

Is there a way to set the Macbook display to be turned off, or in standby, while the external monitor is turned on?

Hope it all makes sense :D

Thank you in advance.

when you close the lid without the power adapter connected, your Mac will sleep, by design. There is no known way around that, nor is there likely to be one.

It is folly to apply ANY of your attention toward micro-manage your computer's charging system. The computer is already managing that, so that you can free your mind to do your important work. Your Mac will charge when needed, and not charge when not needed.

The big lever you have is turning one or off the settings for "Battery Health Management", if your Mac has that feature:

Hi there, Grant.

I have found a command on a video from YT "sudo pmset disablesleep 1" which will keep my monitor turned on, while the Macbook is on batter with the lid closed, but then when the monitor turns off after the amount of time is set in settings, my Satechi bluetooth mouse and keyboard, will not wake it up, I have to open the lid, but if the power cord would have been attached, the mouse will wake the screen... so it's at least a weird behaviour...
