Any way to track stolen iPhone 4 without having previously installed an app

Hi, I've had my iPhone 4 stolen.

I've not got a mobile me subscription, (but I'd buy one if it meant I could track the phone?) and haven't installed any third party tracking app either.

Is there any way it could be tracked? It seems silly that my network can send a shutdown signal, to essentially "brick" the phone unless it's recovered, but can't have the device report it's location...

Thanks.

Thank you Laurence, because here in Gubraltar there isn't wifi connection everywhere so as long as I leave the celura data on in the general setting I will be able to find it!

It will not necessarily work if you have a cellular connection. If the thief turns off your phone, there will be no connection and (unfortunately) 😟 you can't find it until they turn it back on.

Hello--my iphone was stolen today. Here is what gets me--I understand the thieves can wipe the phone even if there is a passcode and this precludes the use of the find my iphone and find my friends features. Here is the kicker--if the phone is off, battery dead, out of provider coverage area, destroyed, or the SIM has been removed, the phone would go straight to voicemail (from the caller's end), correct? My phone is still ringing when I call it, about 5 times before voicemail picks up. Does this mean that the SIM has not been removed? If so, why then would the ATT Family Map not work, as this is tied to the SIM? Thanks!!

Here's one for you...Lost my iphone a few weeks ago, didn't have icloud set up (I know). Anyway, got a new phone from my provider and when i connected it for the first time it asked if I wanted to sync with the original phone, which I did. I registered the phone on icloud and find my mobile etc and both phones were there.

The other day all my contacts disappeared and my ringtone changed. I connected to icloud to find that the name on the lost phone has now changed.

My question is, is it better to just back up the new phone and factory restore it? thanks in advance for any feedback.
