Do you have the Apple TV box? If so, which model? Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

The TV providers setting is for Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Apple TV box), to automatically sign in to TV network apps (ABC, NBC, etc.) that require TV provider credentials.

It is not applicable for third party devices with the Apple TV app. It is not applicable for computers.

I am assuming you have 2-Factor Authentication turned on for your Cox account. You need to go to cox.com, log in and then find where to turn off 2-factor authentication. Once Status shows OFF, go to Apple TV, sign in with Cox as your provider. Once done (it will work), go back into Cox and re-enable 2-Factor Authentication. You will need to do this the next time you wish to sign in on the Apple TV with Cox as provider.

When Cox turned on 2FA (2-Factor Authentication), it messed up the TV Provider sign-in process within the Apple ecoshphere (tvOS, iOS, iPadOS, macOS, etc.).

THE FIX: To correct this, we Cox users are able to sign into our Cox account via the web, go to your settings and turn OFF 2FA for now.

This will allow you to sign into Cox as your TV Provider within any Apple OS (I recommend using your iPhone as it's much easier to type or get the UserID/Password from Keychain).

No need to bother calling to question either Cox or Apple as they didn't know this and we have all had to research this to find the solution on our own. I've reported this to both Apple and Cox so hopefully they will point folks in the right direction soon and, even better, fix the 2FA issue altogether. :-)

Enjoy,

Dan
