I recently damaged my iphone 12 beyond repair, i bought a new iphone 13, while waiting on the new phone I connected an old iphone 5 and updated it. I got the new iphone this morning after updating it i found none of my contacts had updated so i followed the instructions and went to the icloud advance settings and there was nothing there, no previous versions nothing ... im wondering is there anything i can do or am i totally screwed ?

that only works if you were actually syncing contacts to icloud. Try your mail account.
