There is no "battery status" on my macbook air

which pertain to most portable Mac computers. However instructions

will vary ~ depending on version of macOS, & the hardware that runs it..

Should show battery percentages, reference cycles, and more.

Sometimes, by vintage configuration. Some upgrades to later macOS

may not be fully enabled; so could partially be useful. Or Part, missing.

Apple has changed how the battery status/condition is displayed and reported since macOS 10.15+.

If by "status" you mean the charge percentage indicator on the menubar, then that is now a setting which needs to be enabled within the "Battery" section of the "Dock & Menubar" System Preferences. It is really annoying....I can understand why it can be located here, but I feel it deserves to be in its traditional location as well.

At one time just Option-clicking on the Battery icon on the menubar would have revealed the battery condition. This is no longer the case if the battery is "Normal". If the battery capacity goes below 80% or a hardware issue is detected, then the condition will be listed on the Battery menubar icon when clicked (or Option-clicked). I believe it is also revealed on the Control Center if the battery is listed there (again another setting that needs to be configured).

Essentially with macOS 10.15.7 and later, most battery/power status in Mac

is closer to what the iOS device's show; as these grow closer in capability.

While that may not be an immediately known factor ~ without study.

(PS: I've had no luck with 'coconutBattery' app, in macOS or iOS.)

I suggest you use coconutBattery. It's a great free app that will give all sorts of battery information.
