iOS 16.6 Battery Draining Fast
iOS 16 came out today. I've now updated to iOS 16 and I've noticed that my battery is draining faster than it normally does. Is it normal to experience battery drain after a big update?

Not only is it causing battery drain, it is causing the maximum battery capacity to deplete rapidly. I have an open case with Apple. I called them on Sept. 30th and today. The first advisor had the audacity to tell me that this tremendous drop in battery capacity is normal. But then he pointed out that he does see my battery draining rapidly while we were on the phone. To sum it up: I have rapid battery drainage and maximum capacity depletion. I honestly believe that Apple is doing this to make people buy new phones. I do not have money to buy a new phone when my old one was working fine up until the software update. I have a 11 pro max. My husband is also having the same issue with his 11 Pro.
Battery drain was indeed an issue for many and not because the device is old or the battery was not charged optimally etc. After the upgrade to 16 my cellular use for “messages” with 16.0.1 then “contacts” with 16.1 was gigabytes overnight with those apps off and battery meter not showing those apps to be active yet in the cellular settings they were burning thru data and the phones temp made it a hot potato. I am pleased to report 16.2 seems to have fixed it for my case but to assume users are just not realistic with their device battery life or in some way not behaving optimally is not helpful.
I charge my phone every night before going to bed. I actually had a battery replace at the Apple Store yesterday and today the same thing continues with the new battery. So, the upgrade has to be the cause of the battery issue. My phone was bought brand new at the Apple Store in 2021.

The problem was never the battery, so changing the battery naturally did not fix the problem. Battery drain is caused by APPS using energy. You need to figure out why you have one or more apps that are using too much energy. Common offenders: At the very top of the list is VPN services. Followed by FaceBook. And streaming video. and interactive games.
Ever since I updated to iOS 16 on my iPhone 12 Pro, my battery life is beyond terrible. I will charge my phone to a full charge- take it off the charger, and within an hour or two my phone has drained to less than 20%, this happens without even really using it at all. If I am using my phone- just looking at TikTok’s, or searching Amazon my phone will lose battery life so fast. Before I did the update, I was a an Airshow all day taking videos- never had to charge my phone- I waited so long to update, here I thought I was being safe waiting. I wish I never updated- now my phone feels like iPhone 6 all over again. This make me so sad. I wish I read all these reviews before I updated. I feel so stupid now. My phone was perfect before the update- now I have to keep charging it so many times a day I lost count. So upsetting. I should have just left my phone how it was, it was great before the update.
Ever since I updated to iOS 16 my battery life has been exceptionally good. Better than I could ever have expected. I charge it overnight, and by the end of the day it is still between 60% and 80%. iPhones don’t use battery energy; APPS on iPhones use battery energy. So you need to figure out which app or apps are causing your problem.
As a start do you use VPN? That’s a common cause of energy waste, especially if you didn’t reinstall the VPN after updating. Otherwise, go to Settings/Battery and see which apps are consuming the most energy.
Same here and it has been 2 days still is draining veeeeeery fast my battery :/
Please, everyone log calls with Apple as they have not even acknowledged it is a problem yet publicly.
These are not cheap phones and we deserve better.
Adrian.
Try and update to iOS 16.0.3 for me battery is slightly better on that one
Good troubleshooting advice.
Has anyone seen which programs apps draining battery for apps
Sign out of iCloud and I bet the problem is solved. If this works, it is some component of iCloud that is spinning its wheels causing the drain. For me it was messages, then contacts.
