iOS 16 Touch Screen Problems

iPhone 11. Updating to iOS16 causes touch screen to fail.

Updated to iOS 15.7 first, then updated to iOS16 straight afterwards. Both updates ran with no issues.

After update to 16, touch screen is operating randomly. (Touch one icon and another is selected, cannot put correct numbers in to make a phone call etc) Everything else appears to work. No problems with touch before the update.

I totally agree with you omega8719. There are potentially millions of iOS-devices out there with a third party screen and thus there are potentially millions of affected users.

This issue has triggered me to buy a new iPhone early. Could very well be a strategic move from Apple as people with an old iPhone (with an extended life through a third party display) are the perfect target to make new purchase.

Apple SHOULD fix this.

+1 here on iPhone XR. Updated to iOS15.7 this morning. All working well. Then updated to iOS16 this afternoon. Phone touchscreen now unresponsive, can’t swipe with usual finger motions, often taking 2 or 3 fingers to close apps (that’s if they close) or generally do anything. Virtual keyboard chooses incorrect letters to the ones chosen. Basically, my phone is currently useless. Typing this from my iPad Pro which will NOT be updated anytime soon. Reported to Apple as per advice on this thread.

Did you have your screen replaced by a third party?

Have you tried the suggestion to change your settings?

Settings>Touch Accessibility>Touch Accomodation (Turn on Touch Accomodation) > Initial Touch Location> Swipe Gestures (Turn on Swipe Gestures) >"Standard".

This is totally weird. Apple presents the new iPhone 14 serie few days ago. iOS 16 gets released. A lot of people are now having touch screen issues, so serious that they can't even use the phone. What the heck is going on? Apple should release an update immediately.

And so far, most of those people are ones who had their screens replaced by third parties using non-Apple parts.

There does appear to be a way to mitigate the problem:

Settings>Touch Accessibility>Touch Accomodation (Turn on Touch Accomodation) > Initial Touch Location> Swipe Gestures (Turn on Swipe Gestures) >"Standard".

Yes it’s a real nightmare. I changed the settings are per my previous post in this thread which made the phone barely usable however after speaking to my local repair shop . They suggested replacing the screen with their latest which worked and it’s now back to normal on iOS 16 but I’m £50 down for a screen that worked perfectly before the update ! . Previous screen been on 5 months with no issues or damage

Restore from a Backup:

Did you create a backup, prior to installing this update? If so, restore from it. If not, then take this as a learning experience knowing to always backup your iPhone. That way you can have something to restore your iPhone from, should anything go wrong with afterwards.

Ok so 16.0.2 makes it worse with the fix above - it stops swipe gestures totally. But ... if you turn on touch accommodations as described above but turn Swipe Gestures Off instead of On as described above, things get almost back to normal.

So turn on Touch Accommodations, Set Use Initial Touch Location and keep Swipe Gestures off if you have installed 16.0.2 hoping it will fix things.

I'm doing this on an iPhone X but seems pretty solid. Initial installation of 16.0.2 made it a whole lot worse, but turning swipe gestures off brought them back. If you've got 16.0.2 and having issues give that a try.

I have the same issue iPhone XR was Bought from a reseller been working fine for a long time before the update... I can tell the screen had been replaced once before I bought it. Thanks for pushing this update apple RIGHT during hurricane IAN I haven't been able to use my phone to contact anyone. The worst time in the world to push an update to be a wanker because of third-party screens The update straight up says Addresses Issue with Screens after being replaced. Please fix it asap at least push a small update rolling back the screen fix to the last update where it was working you guys have a lot of folks right now trying to use their phones in the middle of the worst time for millions please fix this ASAP!

I-phone XR was Bought from the straight talk as refurbished so I didn't replace the screen why punish us?

Talked my wife into an apple phone and now she wants me to throw this junk away and go buy her a real phone, She has had SOOO many small update issues like this Come on apple, you guys are some of the best phone makers out there.

Already using workaround... Since Saw another post Thank you to whoever that was. Dont have access to mess with a computer atm to roll anything back atm.
