ios 16 photo import to Mojave

Anyone else experiencing the same problem trying to import photos to MacOS Mojave (10.14.16) form iOS 16? On plugging in my iPhone, I was asked to update iTunes (done) and restarted iTunes, but I get an error message "The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9956.)" and no images can be imported.

This will be problematic if I can't offload photos into my Mac!

I have a MacPro running Mojave 10.14.6 and an iPhone 13Pro that I upgraded to IOS16 yesterday.

I took some photos today and got this error when I tried to import them into Photos, like I have always done.

I went into Settings/Photos, and made sure it was set to "Automatic" for transfer to MAC or PC.

Then I went into Settings/Camera/ and chose "Most Compatible" in the Camera Capture Settings.-

but then the error said it could not import the JPG files ...

This is troubling if I cannot import photos!

Ok, so you are not a Windows enthusiast. Good. You just like to install and run Windows on a Mac. I’m not in the habit of feeding trolls on the internet, but I’m just going to paraphrase you here, so we can have a better picture of what you are and how you’ve been trying to move everyone away from the issue posted here and the solution already present in 16.1B (aka the Test version). As someone mentioned in a deleted thread that mentioned the B version, there is no reason to believe the solution won't be present in the official release. So now for anyone who hasn’t read this thread in full, here are some of your so-called "well-said “pearls of wisdom”:

  • “the person who keeps promising 16.1 is just some wanna be programmer at apple”
  • “It's obvious that all the real programmers left apple and I wouldn't be surprised if they started their own app development company”.
  • “When 16.1 comes out, I'm sure someone will write "16.2 SHOULD fix the problem”
  • “Windows 10 is the solution and 16.1 is just a carrot on a stick that some donkey is holding out to you to drag you along”.
  • “there's a big difference with Apple being run when Steve Jobs is around and when he's not.”
  • “In the end, Windows 10 is the solution. A competitor is the solution. Hahaha.”
  • “I am missing my Android now. That was so simple with zero restrictions and everything worked. It was a $150 ZTE Blade phone btw. I guess apple needs to hire some real programmers.”

Just a few of your comments. I could keep going but I know better. And ok, you are not a Windows/Android enthusiast. You don’t love overdramatizing, either. Nice. Kudos to you.

I went a different path. My main machine was a late 2009 MacPro running Mojave. Since I could not upgrade it any newer, my solution was to buy a used 2015 MacBook Pro, and migrate everything to that machine (running Big Sur 11.7).

I had 20 TB of drives in the MacPro, and have a 5 drive USB3 external drive case due in tomorrow from Amazon ...

Once I've got the data drives in a new stable external system, I'll know more.

Same problem over here. I have an iMac running on Mojave 10.14.6 (I can't upgrade any higher due to system resources).

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max, and updated to iOS 16 last night.

I'm getting this on Image Capture when trying to download images: " The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9956.) (-9956)."

I looked around for solutions and tried to give full disk access to Image Capture and PTPCamera and neither of the suggestions offered here or there worked. Note: I don't use the Photos app (just a personal preference) and rely entirely on Image Capture for this.

Please help! Thanks!

Looks like AirDrop is the only reliable solution for now.

When connecting an iPhone, iTunes shows “Assertion failure: err == (-43)” in the Console. But that may not be entirely the issue, since only iTunes was updated when detecting an iOS 16 device: not sure if the problem is with the updater not updating iTunes AND Photos or just iTunes alone.

On plugging in the phone with a new image, and asking for Photos to import new items, Console shows “[00002967] Request Download: IMG_7916.JPG”, but shortly afterwards, the process PTPCamera declares, in a nutshell, that MD5 failed, and that the host layer will retry later if possible. It then goes on to declare that it received an invalid transaction size, and then aborts the process.

Looks to me as though the Photos application is at fault, as per the information that the Console log is churning out. The library item “RKImageCaptureManager” in PhotoApp is not able to import the items.

Work to be done by Apple here, methinks. Anyone filed a bug report yet?

I have a similar issue. However, I use a desktop running OS 10.13.6 and rock solid iMac that does everything else I need it to do. So it's pretty imperative that I get things back up and running asap.

Somebody suggested downloading from iCloud. Great, except I need my files as shot in RAW, so jpegs are useless to me.

Here's my workaround, clumsy as it may be, but it works.

Airdrop my files from my iPhone 14 Pro to my iPad Pro, hook the iPad up to my iMac and use image capture from there to download and manage my files.

Another option is to send the pictures via gmail to my account, but sending my photos One by One is tedious, and an absurd way to go. Instead, I just bid and won a mid-2015 I7 Quadcore Macbook Pro, and I'll move all my stuff to that (from a late 2009 MacPro running Mojave), and set that up with a stack of external drives for all the data (AV etc) that I manage for our household.

But maybe the coders will fix the iPhone photo issue in an IOS bugfix before I have to go through all of that.

IOS 16 photos works fine with Big Sur. I have a Macbook Pro 2015 that works with ios 16

I have a MacPro 2012 - 12 Core - 128gb ram /w/mojave that runs fine but photo won't won't import.

As I do photo editing on the MacPro i had to downgrade to ios 15.7 to import photo's.

I think apple will have to address this issue as lot's of folks have old macs that work fine and have

new phone. Only makes sense from a marketing point of view

ios 16 photo import to Mojave
