ios 16 photo import to Mojave

Anyone else experiencing the same problem trying to import photos to MacOS Mojave (10.14.16) form iOS 16? On plugging in my iPhone, I was asked to update iTunes (done) and restarted iTunes, but I get an error message "The operation couldn't be completed. (com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9956.)" and no images can be imported.

This will be problematic if I can't offload photos into my Mac!

Do you have a source for this or just your own claim?

I like to turn lemon into lemonade, so I use Windows or in my case, in my Mac, I use VirtualBox to install Windows 10.

Then, in this VM Windows 10, I access my iphone and drag the entire DCIM folder to my Windows 10.

In my Mac, I created a shared folder that VirtualBox can access, so I copy the DCIM folder to this shared folder.

Then, in my Mac, I can access all photos and videos in their raw format. This also lets me save my photos/videos where I want to to.

In the past, when Photos used to work in importing photos/videos, I would have to import and then export because I prefer to save my photos/videos in a secondary drive.

So using Windows 10 just requires copying files over and not having to wait for the Photos app to convert each one; however, since Photos doesn't work, it's out of the equation here.

Hope texting each photo/video works out for you. My situation is that I like to keep copies on my storage drives to see them on a big monitor.

Cheers. Hakuna-matata.

Photos in Mojave won't import since I upgraded to iOS16 on my iphone. I spoke to Apple this morning -the advice was to 'upgrade' to Monterey due to 'incompatability issues'. As the Photos app is commonly reviewed as 'buggy' in Monterey, I've avoided this so far. Seems we're stuck with it if we want to stay with an older system. What a pain...Apple should do better.

I'm having the same problem. Error -9956. And it only started happening after my iPhone XR updated to iOS 16.

The same error happens in both ImageCapture (which I've been using for years) and the Photos app (which I haven't used in about a decade).

Interestingly, the app has no trouble importing images that aren't photos (e.g. screenshots or images downloaded from other apps.) It's only photos shot using the iPhone's own camera that fail to download.

For me, I had to connect my Iphone XR to Windows 10 either installed into my Macbook Pro or via VirtualBox.

From there, my Iphone will prompt to "Trust" my Windows 10, which I tapped on "Trust."

After that, I can access my iphone's DCIM folder to drag all of it over to my Windows 10.

I had an issue with a MOV H.265 file that was 18 minutes long in my iphone that would not transfer via Windows 10.

So in my iphone's Photos app, I selected this 18 minute clip and made it "Save To Phone." The saving process makes the app convert the clip. From there, I could transfer this 18 minute clip.

However, when I set my iphone to H.264 MOV, the codec that takes up more space, but is more compatible to most if not all devices these days, has no issue transferring over when it's a long and large file sized clip.

I guess you and I are doing QA testing for apple for free.

When my business booms one day, I'll reach out to hire you. As I don't like to freeload or freeloaders. Cheers.

If you need to download the photos/videos ASAP, doing this in Windows 10 worked for me.

Using the apps: Photo or Image Capture, did not work for me in OS X Mojave.

In Windows 10, after having your iphone trust the PC, your iphone's SSD will pop up and you can begin transferring photos/videos over.

The other route is to send photos/videos via airdrop to your Mac if it has airdrop. If not, uploading them to Google Drive or Dropbox with GDrive giving you more free space, 15GB vs 2GB from Dropbox or as some have done, texting it to yourself.

Hi All

Real briefly, "Yeah; 16.1 Beta4 on my 12Max fixed the import issue." At least on a sample of two fotos. I haven't had a chance to look thru to see how the rest of the install is working, but LTE and Wireless are there, and the rest looks OK, anyway.

Gotta go; will report back if I find other issues with the installation, but for now, if ya can't wait for the official 16.1, give the Beta a try.

As stated before, don't assume something until it's tested.

Who knows, maybe the person who keeps promising 16.1 is just some wanna be programmer at apple who knows their team do not know how to fix this or were told to do this.

16.03's release clearly just focused on bugs with the newest iphone and mentioned nothing else.

For the person on CS6, just install VirtualBox on your Mac. Then install Windows 10. From there, you can access your iohone's DCIM folder.

That's how I download all my videos and photos.

It's obvious that all the real programmers left apple and I wouldn't be surprised if they started their own app development company.

Until then, Windows 10 is the solution and 16.1 is just a carrot on a stick that some donkey is holding out to you to drag you along.

When 16.1 comes out, I'm sure someone will write "16.2 SHOULD fix the problem."

Confirmed by experiment and reading other threads that AirDrop does convert the videos down to h.264 1080p, so there seems to be no way to copy the full HEVC videos right now unless you pay Apple for an iCloud subscription or a new laptop.

Wondering if there's any workaround using Windows? Last I checked it was a disaster: it converted everything, stamped some metadata to the files, and, even though it kept EXIFF data as-is, it overwrote the original creation/modification date of the video files (which I need in my studio scripts).
