3 days after upgrading to ios 16.1.1 on my iphone 12 the touch screen was totally unresponsive. after much searching i found a solution thtat eventually worked.
1.Preaa volume up quickly
2.Press volume down quickly
3 Hold down power down button until phone shuts down
4 my phone worked after restarting. i tried it a few times before it eventually did. tip is tp jolf shut down button for a at least a minute or two (I think).
Not happy at all. Fix it Apple!
Had the same issue; in my device I had turned on Developer mode. Seems it causing the issue, i had tuned off and its been a week and no longer having screen touch issues.
Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Developer Mode

Unfortunately, Apple hasn’t acknowledged the ghost touch issues after the iOS 16 update. We hope that the team comes up with a fix soon.
Apple absolutely did acknowledge there was an issue with third-party screens. See here under iOS 16.0.2:
Hurray!😃 ios 16.1 upgrade fixed the my iPhone X issue. Thanks a lot all
i have an iPhone 11 and had this issue after ios16-2
I did the volume down, volume up, power off for a minute reset about four times and it eventually worked.
i had the same problem and reverted to ios 15
Use this instruction to fix it: push once volume up, once volume down, then long hold siri button to switch the iphone off off. then switch on. should help.
Restart your iPhone or iPad. Make sure that your screen is clean and free of any debris or water. Disconnect any Lightning or USB-C accessories. If your screen works after removing an accessory, try using a different outlet, cable, or charger.
I have switched off “Find my iPhone” and issue seems to have been sorted.
Follow these steps, testing after each step:

The volume up + down + restart didn't work for me. I erased, reinstalled 16.2 and restore a backup of the phone about 2 days ago. The system seems better but at least once or twice a day the screen response stops for few minutes and then it gets back to normal. Still thinking from time to time there's a process consuming the processor resources.
I think i have the same problem, Before the ios 16 update i changed the screen because it was broken then after i saw that my phone got a latest update (ios16) i update it then suddenly after it got restart my touch screen stopped working
It is a software issue in iOS 16 where a display has been replaced. There “might be” an update to sort it
same on XR, 100000% software issue
