Should I download iOS 16 on my iPhone 8?

Recently and during iOS 15 my iPhone 8 has become victim to battery drain, inconsistent performance, and overheating. My maximum capacity on my iPhone now is 79%. Will downloading iOS 16 increase these issues, or should downloading it minimise these issues. In short will the new update make my phone slower and more unresponsive? Or is it just a case of old phone.

Partly a case of an old phone. Your phone is eligible of course but the new update won’t necessarily fix your issues or make them worse. Maybe just do the 15.7 update first and just wait a bit before doing 16 if you want more time to research what other iPhone 8 users are experiencing with the iOS 16 update

It's been my experience that when my devices start overheating, that is an indication that the device is struggling to keep up with the new operating system, using older technology. In this case using a 5 year old chip set. The 8 is the oldest iPhone able to update to iOS 16, so next year, it will probably drop off. My guess is updating to iOS 16 will exacerbate your performance problems, & probably tax your battery further. If you absolutely don't want to upgrade your phone, you might try a new battery, to see if that would help, but the inconsistent performance that you are indicating most likely has more to do with the age of the phone.

I'm no Apple genius, this has just been my experience in the past.

I updated my iPhone 8 to iOS 15.7 two days ago and then updated it to iOS 16 last night and my battery is draining very quickly and feels like it was a mistake to get iOS 16. I’m sorry I didn’t just stick with iOS 15.7 for a while. My job wants everyone to upgrade to the latest iOS for security. Hopefully, my phone will work for the next three months, as I’ll be getting a new one for Xmas.
