apple hdmi tv adapter audio not working with ios 16

Apple doesn’t seem to care. They basically told me they are aware of the issue, but have no ETA as to when it will be fixed nor do they have any workarounds. It’s actually working to their advantage- think of all the people spending money on new Apple Lightning adapters & HDMI cables to try and fix the problem and when it still doesn’t work, they probably buy replacement ones. In the meantime,

we’re forced to sit around and wait until they decide to fix it.

Wow! Apple is really gone down hill. I will not buy another apple NOTHING. Trying to watch Hulu….the ads have volume but not the show I want to watch. What a huge disappointment. Pay top dollar for a product that doesn’t provide the service promised……SHAME SHAME

I completely agree. In fact, I made a point to tell the Apple Rep that multiple people (including myself) have purchased new HDMI cables and Apple Lightning adapters to try and solve the problem which we now know has absolutely nothing to do with the hardware. It’s 100% the IOS 16 update causing the issue.

Apple has offered ZERO work arounds and when I mentioned that the issue is now affecting people financially ….crickets.

Updated my iPhone on December 16th, 2022 to iOS16.2

Hoped they solved the problem, but unfortunately HDMI adapter still not working for Discovery+ (no sound and shaky slow video).

Youtube and videos stored on my iPhone work fine with sound and video.

A simple HDMI firmware update would be most welcomed instead of another time waiting for iOS16.3 ………

Reading a lot of people with my issue after 16.2 update, Hulu, prime video,and peacock has slow motion video and no audio. Netflix and HBO max work. I use the Apple lightning adapter. Never had issue until installing 16.2. Have you come up with a fix yet

I have had this problem since last night after a friend gave me the adapter. I am on iOS 16.2. I have just done two things, in accessibility I changed the allow while mirroring setting for zoom to allow and then restarted the phone. Holding the volume up and power button at the same time. Once the phone restarted Netflix and Disney plus worked as normal. Haven’t tried others yet. Hope this helps.

Nope, that didn’t work. Still unable to watch multiple apps except Utube.

Apple doesn’t care enough to fix the problem. This has been an issue now for 3 months for some users. It may not even get fixed on the next update, so we either need to wait until who knows when or get a different brand phone.

All apps work with HDMI adapter with audio EXCEPT: HULU, Amazon Prime and Paramount+(regular Paramount works)

A lot of money for an Apple product that does not work for all apps! This needs to be corrected!

OK so I have read all the replies and see I am the latest in a long line of customers stricken with this issue on casting from my iphone (ios16.2 installed) to TV using lightning adaptor and HDMI. So far no luck with following apps spectrum, peacock, apple tv - like the rest of you I see video but get no audio. I was successful with one app which tells me the cables and the phone do work but for some reason on these others apps audio is blocked. So I was wondering whether an alternative is to use airplay and cast to a smart TV so that a HDMI and lightening adaptors aren't needed. Can anybody advise as to whether this would work and what would be the best smart TV. I have an old Vizio which doesn't have that capability....Thank you and Merry Christmas.

I’m having the same issue with my iPhone 13 Pro not having sound when I connect it to my tv using the Apple brand hdmi adapter, but the video works and I have a movie rented from Cineplex Store that now expires in 48hrs that I’ll have to watch on a tiny screen because of this issue - so frustrating!

This is ridiculous ! Spent time with senior advisor tech and nothing! Seems like they are clueless anything is going on with this update and using the apple hdmi cord! Get with it apple! Using 13 phone with 16.2 update

Having the same issue. This is obviously an issue with the 16.2 update. I have an iPad running 14.1 and No issues with Apple HDMI adapter. But when I connect my iPhone running 16.2 to the same TV I have no sound. And I used to be able to use iPhone with no problems before update. Please fix this Apple

I am having the same issues. Prime is skipping and no volume. HBO Max will work but you have to try it multiple times first. Hard to believe this is Apple. All their stuff used to work flawlessly.

So, having a good look at the release notes for iOS 16.2, seems they did some work on the IP private relay. So follow that thread and as I was getting an error associated with VPNs on Disney plus even though I wasn’t running one at the time got me thinking. So I turned off private relay in iCloud, then in the Wi-Fi settings turned off private Wi-Fi address and limit ip address tracking. This has worked for everything other than prime video which I do not get sound and the picture stutters. Hope this works for you all. Any tips on getting prime working would be good.
