apple hdmi tv adapter audio not working with ios 16

My Apple HDMI TV adapter only shows picture, not audio, with iOS 16. I am in a very rural area with only cellular access, so this is a huge disappointment. (iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 Pro) Worked fine before the update!

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16

I have the same issue. 3 phones all did the same thing after upgrading to ios16. 2 iPhone 13s and our SE. When we plugged in the adapter to each one a message came and said that the firmware needed to be updated for the accessory. After firmware updated we had picture but no audio. Tried 2 different Apple hdmi adapters and hdmi cables and 2 tvs. Please fix.

No sound on TV when trying to watch tv (on TV screen) when connected through HDMI adapter (Apple Adapter). Until this is fixed, reverting back to IOS 15 seems logical. But after spending many many hours trying to go back to IOS 15, trying everything I could find on internet, I keep having the dreaded error 3194.

I wish Apple could provide a simple efficient way to go back to ealier ios version that works.

Did anybody succeed going back to ios 15?

My work around is opening streaming tv and movie apps on my iPhone, plugging it into my MacBook, plugging in a usbc male to hdmi female adapter into the MacBook then hdmi to the tv. You have to use air play on the iPhone and select the MacBook then it will play video on the tv but it uses the audio on the MacBook. I also use a sound bar that is plugged into the headphones jack. Or you could use a Bluetooth speaker to connect to your MacBook. If you have a laptop you should be able to get an adapter with usba to hdmi with a usbc port on it.

Same! All my other devices that haven't had the update still work, but my phone doesn't. I was planning to have a dinner party tonight and wanted to play music on my phone. I guess I will have to use my old iPad instead.

My Apple watch has gone crazy too since the latest update. It chimes about every 90 seconds while on the charger.

All,

While onsite to support a client with a Vaddio AV Bridge MatrixMix that wasn't passing audio from their iPad or MacBook I found that using the client's new Apple dongle model # A2119 (EMC3279) would pass HDMI video, but would not allow audio to pass from my laptop using a Mini-DisplayPort/HDMI adapter. I know the thread is about the Apple dongle, but bear with me.

After confirming the configuration of the device I chose to test with my older Apple dongle model #A1621 (EMC2877) and audio passed correctly.

It appears the client's new Apple dongle may have an issue in the updated iOS that locks up the digital audio and the only way to get audio to pass was to reboot the MatrixMix.

Once I locked it up again using the client's Apple dongle I confirmed that no audio would pass from any type of adapter and then cleared the issue using the A1621.

I even used the client's 3rd part USB-C adapter which initially worked correctly, but once the A2119 was used it would prevent audio from passing and wouldn't work until I used the A1621 dongle or rebooted the MatrixMix.

Once the older A1621 dongle was used and audio passed correctly I could revert back to the new A2119 dongle or other dongle and everything worked as it should.

The Apple store doesn't list the model number of the current USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter, so I wouldn't count on purchasing it from them unless they can confirm availability to the A1621 dongle.

I hope this helps, but if not, my issue may have been specific to the Vaddio AV Bridge MatrixMix.

It may also be relevant to reboot the TV/Display/Video component after you have the Apple device connected and powered on, but I didn't attempt that while onsite.

Good luck!

I didn’t fix it.

FIXING THE PROBLEM CAN ONLY BE DONE BY APPLE.

HELLO APPLE, ARE YOU THERE?

I recommended that the client abandon use of the new Apple A2119 USB-C/HDMI adapter because it was the root of the problem. All I can assume is the Apple iOS updates have caused an issue based on what I’ve seen in the thread.

My suggestion to the thread is to try the older A1621 adapter to see if it works or will clear the issue of no audio.

Although I have multiple types of adapters for use in testing client’s AV systems, I don’t have a Mac, iPad or iPhone that uses USB-C, so my experience was with the client’s equipment only.

My goal in adding to the thread was to provide some additional input to see if it was an effective solution, that is UNTIL APPLE COULD GET THE JOB DONE CORRECTLY AND RESOLVE THE PROBLEM THEY CREATED FOR THEIR DEDICATED CUSTOMERS.

I am also having video out issues with my iPhone (12 mini) since updating to iOS 16.1.2. Use Apple lightening to HDMI adapter and HDMI cable. Does not work with my HP monitor or a Sony TV. Both monitor and TV work fine with the same cable and adapter using my iPad (mini 4) with iOS 15.7.1. I usually use my phone for a camera on a microscope and so I cannot use AirPlay to solve this problem. Used the phone for a camera on the microscope hundreds of times before upgrading to iOS 16.

Apple is worried over the legal issues of copyright infringement; more the the issue of denial of use of your paid for property (commonly referred to as petty theft).

I can watch anything on UTUBE but nothing from Tubi, Amazon, apple cloud, HBO and others dedicated to provided copyrighted material. We need to talk to he legal department not support!
