Is there a way to remove the dark shadow on the apps name on the homescreen? iOS 16

We appreciate you reaching out to the Community for help on this one!

This was a recent change with iOS 16. Currently the only way to adjust this would be to use a darker background or wallpaper.

what i found worked for me was settings > accessibility > per-app settings > add home screen > reduce transparency.

Mess around with the default, on, off settings for transparency and one of them should work.

I figured out how to fix it! You just go to wallpaper in settings, press “add new wallpaper”, add your wallpapers back, and add your Lock Screen first. Then, click customize Home Screen if you have a different Home Screen than your Lock Screen, and you’ll be able to fix the weird shadow there!

If you change the folder names to emojis instead of words the shadows go away. Still not a clean look, but it’s less smudgy looking.

The Apple rep’s post is incorrect. You can deselect depth effect (see other user’s suggestion) and that works.

I got it off! I think it had something to do with this depth effect button? I got to this screen by going to images, clicking the share button on one, and then clicking “set as wallpaper.” I tried it again and the button did nothing, but by fiddling around on this screen I got the buttons back to normal!

You seem to be under the impression you are speaking with anyone from Apple? You are not. This is a user to user only forum and no one here can fix anything on the next update.

It's really ugly. Wouldn't think Apple would implement such an ugly feature. You should give us an option to turn it off.

I agree. Unfortunately Apple's visual designers have been subpar in the past few years. Makes me wonder if interns are doing this work.

Yeah, I have to agree, this looks horrible and I now regret updating to iOS 16. No idea what they were thinking. This has to be one of the most un-Apple looks I’ve seen them push on their users. So muddy looking and way worse than how it looked pre iOS 16.

Same issue. I have a black and white photo as my Home Screen and now that there are dropshadows it ruins the picture. I also have a 3rd page that has no apps on it except one that is a picture of that section (used a website for it) so it looks like the full picture. Now that they changed the way the pages work, that “app” is darker and no longer blends in with the background which is obnoxious. I hope they change this back because it helps nothing and ruins my home screen
