Turn off Report Junk in iMessage on iPhone

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before.  I can't locate it, if it has.

After updating to IOS16, I get a Report Junk message when trying to delete a message that is not in my contact list.  The messages that I am receiving that Apple considers spam are notifications from my bank, my credit cards, my doctor, my orders.  I'd prefer not to take the extra step to deny reporting the assumed junk to Apple or ATT.  I can't add these message id's to my contacts because they are not the same all the time.  I don't want them filtered to a spam folder and not be notified because it is important that I see them immediately.  Anything I can do or I'm just stuck with taking an unnecessary extra step.  Thanks for any responses.

I'm not sure how to unmark as junk once it has been marked as such other than to wait until it comes again (because I'm sure they don't stop right away) and add it to your contacts.

So in answer to my own question: As I was messing around, I realized that those notification texts that come in as, for example, 222-22 can be saved to contacts. I thought that they come in with random numbers, but I see that the ones I am getting are specific to that particular organization, like 222-22 will always come from CVS Pharmacy. All I need do is open the text, go to the top and tap the right arrow near the number, tap info on the next screen, then choose Add Contact (or New Contact), name it CVS and save. I happen to already have CVS in my Contacts, so I only had to add/merge their text number to that contact. I now bypass the extra step that asks me to Report Junk. However, I am now creating more Contacts that are probably unnecessary, but until I can find another way to fix it ... this works for me. I hope I was clear. It's late. I'm tired. Good luck.

I just reported the issue on the Apple Feedback link. After describing the problem and providing my information there is a mandatory drop down to select what OS you’re using.
Unfortunately the most current selection is 15.7…hopefully all the complaints don’t get routed to the iOS 15 bin.

>I've read it doesn't really do anything when you report it, just put it in the deleted items.

Well if that's true it doesn't make any sense. You have to delete the message first, so if report it just deletes it also, that's completely superfluous. I swear everything on Apple takes 2+ more clicks than to do the same thing on Android. Sheesh.

Also- to anyone else reading- please allow us to turn is off. It's unnecessary extra clicks.

Yes, I know that. Doesn't mean they don't read it.

True, but they don’t read the forum for suggestions. Anyone at level 6 and higher can communication directly with the forum managers and have regular meetings, so we do know they don’t read it.

And it’s been fixed, anyway.

Well, my initial comment was: "Also- to anyone else reading- please allow us to turn is off. It's unnecessary extra clicks. "

So just, consider that to include anyone 'level 6 and above'.

All moot because as you say, it's been fixed. Ostensibly.

We don't pass along user comments to Apple engineering. There are feedback links you, a user who may want to communicate with Apple directly can use. You seem to not get what this forum is about.

Again, moot point as you suggest as Apple fixed this some time ago.

Keep this handy if you ever want to let Apple know you have a need for a feature change --> Product Feedback - Apple

I kinda disagree. I've heard nothing that's different than my original, pre-comment, expectations. And I got what I was looking for. The forum has met any expectations I had.

You read too much into that line. I was not looking to 'open a ticket' or 'speak to the manager'. It was an observation, a wish cast out to the sky to no one in particular, just on the simple chance that somehow, down the line, a decision maker may perhaps see it and add it to the 'collective' of opinions. If they don't, then so be it. If 'no one's there', then that's no problem, I wasn't looking for anyone to be there.

Anything else is putting more weight to it than intended.

This “enhancement” is problematic for many reasons, including, but not limited to, inadvertently labeling essential communications as junk and not receiving them, demanding “customers” attention, inadvertently sharing protected and private information with Apple, and producing valuable data for Apple at the cost of its “customers.”

Requiring a junk label for every text is poor design. Like most email software, users should be able to self select junk reporting at their discretion and otherwise be able to delete messages without being nagged.

Please don’t report any spam to Apple, as they’re undeserving of the information. Doing so provides them with value at your expense.

Please do not respond to this asking me or others to request a new feature. Users did not request this feature, and Apple only crowd sources ideas convenient or valuable to them without transparency about how users can influence products.
