Homekit Automations are broken in iOS 16

Since iOS 16 HomeKit automations aren't triggered reliably. Simple timed automations like "Open Shutters at 9am" are triggered randomly. All my Hubs, Homepods, iPhones, etc are up-to-date, restarted, reseted all the devices, recreated all the automations, but still not reliable.

My only solution at the moment is to schedule the automations with the accessories' own hub. (eg. IKEA light automations are set in IKEA's own app, and my Bosch smart home shutters are scheduled within Bosch's app) It works, but would be better to see everything within Apple's Home.

I too suffered from my automations no longer working after upgrading my AppleTV's (4K and HD) to TV OS 16. After about 5 days of troubleshooting I cannot say what specifically is wrong but I can provide what seems to be a consistent way to create HomeKit automations that consistently work on IOS 16 / TV OS 16.

First, the iphone / ipad you run this procedure on must be running IOS 16 for this to work.
Delete the automation in question (either via the Home app or the Shortcuts app)
Create the automation in the latest version of the shortcut app (Do NOT use the Home App).
In the shortcut application when you create your automation, do not select your scene or accessory in the first menu, instead scroll down to the bottom and select "Convert to shortcut"
In the shortcut menu select your scene or accessory as you normally would.
Before hitting "Done" in the Shortcut menu, select the small arrow at the very bottom right of the screen to test your script. Assuming it works as desired you can select "Done" in the Shortcut menu.
Now don't panic, it takes approximately 3-5 seconds to copy the new automation to your home hub before it will be listed in the Automations screen.

This has worked consistently for me for both simple automations such as turning on a light at a certain time as well as complex automations based on location that SSH into a remote server.

I had this fixed after turning all automations into scenes and then got a new iOS update. Automations are broken again. Sigh. Hey Apple! Are you paying attention to this?

Btw, all my AppleTV2s, which act as homekit hubs, are on the current revision of tvos. My phone is on the current revision of ios

All my homehubs are updated to the lastest OS 16.2 and hopefully soon to 16.3. The problem persists

Same problem here. I started noticing that some automations would not work after the update to iOS16. It’s good to see that I’m not the only one with this problem…hopefuly Apple will resolve it quickly in the next update. My system is very complex and I cannot imagine deleting and recreating the automations again!

I’m wondering if I should try this.

however, I talked with an Apple Advisor and told me that a lot of people have issues with HomeKit in iOS 16. He took all my settings and sent it to Apple engineers.

An update should appear soon !

Well, who knows how fast they will fix this? Apple ignored this problem during countless iOS 16 betas, and the transition to Matter is coming next month, so they should really focus on Smart Home. I had to do it; my window blinds went crazy and opened/closed randomly with HomeKit Automation. (If I set up the same in Bosch's app, they worked flawlessly)... Anyway, let's hope next month - when Ventura comes out, and Matter arrives - HomeKit will be reliable again.

FWIW I did not delete HomeKit app, because I don't have the patience to build it all out again, that seems wrong for so many reasons. I did delete the automations and rebuilt in 3rd party app Home+ where the granularity of the rules and exceptions is better (and hopefully something Apple Home will adopt). Those Home+ automations end up populating in Home with the granular rules and they have worked flawlessly since I have created them, including HomePod music and time, people based automations.

If you delete the app and reinstall the app it keeps your home, devices and automations. This is dependent on using an iPad or AppleTV to be your hub. Everything was still the same when I reinstalled, other than the background.

It's not really a solution. I've got 6 homes in Home app. The largest home has 30 bridges connected to it and around 300 devices in total (sensors, actors, etc.). So configuring everything from scratch is out of question for me.

to be clear, are we suggesting:

Remove Home from the App,

Delete app and reinstall

IF i remove the Home, then readd one, will it remember my items? IS this because people have added them via other apps. My Hue lights were added via Hue app. Would i need to remove these items from Hue also?
