iOS 16 notifications disappear from Notification Centre

On iOS 16. If I have notifications, once they are viewed in Notification Centre they disappear so I can’t re-read them again later if they don’t need responding to immediately. I hope I explained this clearly. I’m finding it very frustrating. Is there a way to fix?

update 2: after system reinstall I see that this is the way system is designed. It means that once the notification is displayed, even if you don’t read it, it will disappear from the visible notifications. To see this notification you have to swipe up from the Lock Screen (or swipe down when device is unlocked and then swipe up) to see the Notification Centre manually.

it sounds ridiculous that you have to remember to check unread notifications later. The whole list of notifications should be visible somewhere all the time to help you keep tracking important messages.

Its awful but I found a workaround - I think I found a way of getting them back, but only works from Lock Screen. If I swipe up from *middle of Lock Screen*, all notifications appear and are back again from an undefined time. If I swipe up from bottom, the phone just unlocks (via FaceID) then there are no visible notifications again has been the phone is unlocked.

We are talking NOTIFICATIONS by definition, it isn’t a notification if no one sees it or has to go looking for it. I put up post-it’s, each stays up until I handle it, I toss or file it. I do NOT automatically gather them and dump in a drawer.

Even at my limited programming, I really don’t think it would be rocket science to add a “Persistant” option to these notification settings.

Everyone, even Microsoft, knows to leave “View Read/Unread” as an option. Apple totally missed the boat and made this feature a bug by “improving” it into uselessness. It is really BAD tech to say, “This isn’t a bug, it’s a feature”.

I realize everyday how much I miss this when I miss notification of calls missed or app status (darn dead Fitbit). I loved not constantly checking because it is so easy to miss something. The new Apple staff missed the concept 100% or thought “some few people” use it this way and stirred the ant hill with this change.

Reddit is full of it and I hope a fraction of them and you all actually post discontent at Apple.com/feedback, not just here, like I did!

Fingers crossed.

This is exactly my problem too. Notifications seem to disappear after a while, even if they remain unread, no related app accessed, or anything like that.

And yes, this is either a major bug or very weird feature, negating one of the main use cases of the Notifications where I want to keep notifications visible until I get around to deal with them. Now notifications just fade away to be forgotten!

I know that you can swipe up to access the disappeared notifications, but remembering and needing to do this to check whether you have notifications does not make any sense.
