iOS 16 notifications disappear from Notification Centre

On iOS 16. If I have notifications, once they are viewed in Notification Centre they disappear so I can’t re-read them again later if they don’t need responding to immediately. I hope I explained this clearly. I’m finding it very frustrating. Is there a way to fix?

update 2: after system reinstall I see that this is the way system is designed. It means that once the notification is displayed, even if you don’t read it, it will disappear from the visible notifications. To see this notification you have to swipe up from the Lock Screen (or swipe down when device is unlocked and then swipe up) to see the Notification Centre manually.

it sounds ridiculous that you have to remember to check unread notifications later. The whole list of notifications should be visible somewhere all the time to help you keep tracking important messages.

I think I may have the same problem.

Let's say I have five notifications from different apps. I see them but don't want to open or read them. Just to left to read later. Then I unlock the phone, and the notifications screen is empty. Even when I pull down the screen from the notch, there is no notification. To display the list of unread messages, I have to, on the lock screen, pull up the screen from down to see the Notifications Center. Otherwise, I have no chance to read any of them.

even if you change the option in Settings -> Notifications -> Show preview -> When device is not locked/Always it still doesn’t fix the issue. If you don’t touch notifications they will automatically disappear after few minutes. I think that option is just to let you choose if only you can see the notification content, it doesn’t mean that notification previews will always be visible.

Fair enough, you implied it’s a planned change by Apple.

I think you need to consider the difference between "implied" and "inferred". We know Apple made changes in iOS 16. Whether by design or as an unexpected consequence, it means you can do things the way you used to. I have no idea which it was. But, I highly doubt that Apple was thinking "we don't want to people to use Notifications as a TTD list, so let's make that impossible". I suspect the idea that some few people might use it that way was not part of their calculations at all.

If enough people send a Feedback form then true they may actually listen but it’s getting enough people to submit one.

Frankly, I don't think this is going to be one of those things Apple decides to change but, I'm not Apple.

What I do know is that, while complaining here may be cathartic, it serves little other purpose.

Just updated to iOS16.3 and realised this notification behaviour that differs from iOS 15 and earlier.

Unread notifications that disappear and hide into the notification center once the phone is unlocked is unintuitive.

Unlocking and using the phone does not mean I saw the notification but chose to defer dealing with it. This change forces users to constantly swipe up just to check if they have a notification that they may not have seen.

I hope Apple adds an option to revert this behaviour.

No. I’m not talking about if you open the notification from the Notification Centre. I’m talking about if you just read it from the notification screen. If I viewed a notification and then left it for two hours I could go back and re-read it. But now as soon as I viewed it in the notification centre I can’t view it again. It’s most definitely not the same as it always has been.

This is a show stopper for me. I use the notification list as a to-do list 24/7/365.

While you're certainly free to use your phone in any way that makes sense for you, keep in mind that, when you use it in ways other than how Apple intends, Apple may make changes that don't align with how you use it.

I need the notifications to be there until I actually clear them. I agree having to swipe here or there from this far up or that place is ridiculous .

Tell Apple what you want/need here:

Product Feedback - Apple

My solution, I will be researching reloading previous backup with old IOS version until this is fixed.

Restoring from a previous backup will not restore the old version of iOS. Apple has never supported downgrading.

### iOS 16 notifications disappear from Notification Centre

Hello everyone please try this below snippet

  func userNotificationCenter(_ center: UNUserNotificationCenter, willPresent notification: UNNotification, withCompletionHandler completionHandler: @escaping (UNNotificationPresentationOptions) -> Void) {
