iPhone 14 Pro Battery Draining Fast

Anybody have a clue why the iPhone 14 pro battery is draining like a Samsung? My 13 pro and 13 pro max battery was so much better.. I’m lucky to get through the day with the new 14 pro battery!! What’s going on? Is this because of the new always on display?

Update: The battery is fine. It’s the particular Astronomy Lock Screen and always on display that was killing battery. I guess because the globe rendering is live 3D, the battery drain is higher when combined with always on display. A regular static image doesn’t drain the battery like this.

This is not helpful. Everyone posting in this thread is here because we’ve seen a dramatic difference since “upgrading” to either the iPhone 14 or iOS 16 - so this is actually not normal or at least should not be acccetable since it’s entirely reasonable for us to expect better battery life, not worse when “upgrading”. If we are all seeing a dramatic worsening of battery life with the exact same settings and usage patterns, then it is a problem (that hopefully will be addressed).

You are actually incorrect and the advice Lawrence provided quite correct. A phone turned on overnight, but not charged, will without question lose power as the phone is still functioning. And plugging in the phone to charge overnight with Optimized Battery charging and iCloud backup enabled is the recommended way of charging your iPhone.

I understand that. But you commented you were concerned your iPhone lost 20+% overnight, not plugged in. That is simply not unusual or unexpected.

I own iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Battery life on both is nothing short of stunning. If people are experiencing unusual battery drain, they have something going on in the background which using the charge. It is not an inherent flaw with the phone. I know too many people with new 16 Pro models. NONE are experiencing any battery drain issues at all.

Dear Lawrence, I'm sorry but YOU CAN leave your phone without charging overnight and you actually should if your battery is not below 20% as you will use one more charge cycle than necessary and then shorten your battery life :)

That is a false statement. Apple recommends charging your phone at night with Optimized Battery Charging enabled and does not suggest it should not be charged unless the battery is below 20%. A charge cycle is not determined by the number of times you charge. It is determined by how much charge is needed to get back to 100%.

You should charge you phone at night with Optimized Battery Charging turned on. Machine Learning is used to recognize your schedule and ensure when you awaken in the morning, your phone is charged to 100%, but it will not keep your phone charging all night. Instead, it will stop your phone at 80% and then charge it the remaining 20% in time for your new day.

If your iPhone is at 80% when you put your phone on its charger, with Optimized Charging on, it will remain at 80% until before you get up, where your phone will then charge to 100%, just in time. You will have charged your phone 20%. That is not a battery charge cycle. It is 1/5th of a battery charge cycle. In other words, if you followed the same routine and your phone was at 80% when you put it on the charger, it would take 5 nights of charging to equal ONE battery cycle.

Hi there,

I have also a brand new iPhone 14 pro and I am facing a bad battery performance.

I use my phone with 3hours screen on time before reaching 50% battery..

A colleague of mine has the same phone and can use 3hours his iPhone before getting…… 80% battery remaining !

He used his backup. On my side, I have made a fresh clean install without installing too much apps, also I don’t’ have photos (all on my NAS) and not so much files so indexation should not be the root cause.

The problem should not be the phone because my battery performance is the same as on my iPhone 13…

I have tried everything, install as new, restore with DFU mode, disabling some features but nothing to do.

I really do not understand.

Is it normal that the iPhone 14 Pro (not Max) loses about 1-2% of battery per hour just in standby mode without me really using it? Or 9% when making a call for 5-10 minutes?

For example, I leave the house at 7.30 in the morning with 100%, the iPhone then sits on my desk until 5 pm, by then I have maybe 85-80% left, even though it's just a few notifications coming in during the day like mail, WhatsApp, etc.

I have already turned off always-on-display and background app refresh. The iPhone is three weeks old, so indexing should be done.

Apple support ran a diagnostic and everything seems to be fine they said. The guy told me to use low power mode, but that can't be the solution...?

Is that kind of battery drain normal for the 14 Pro? I was used to much better runtime from my iPhone 12 Pro.

Thanks for your suggestions :)
