trouble connecting MacBook Air M2 to TV via HDMI

Hi. I have a new MacBook Air M2. I am trying to connect it to a TV via HDMI to use the TV as a display. I can make the connection and see my MacBook screen on the TV for a short time, but then the display on the TV starts to go in and out (i.e., the TV goes black and then the display comes back up repeatedly).

I've tried multiple HDMI cords, multiple adapters to connect the MacBook to the HDMI cord, and even multiple TVs. I have the same issue every time. Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas about how to resolve it? Thank you!

MacBook Air, macOS 12.6

Hi demiATL,

Are you trying to use the TV as a second display, or mirror your Desktop? Take a look at the articles below for connecting your MacBook Air M2 to an additional display, they go over the details of what's required.

Connect a display to your Mac - Apple Support

Mac computers with Apple silicon
On Mac computers with Apple silicon, you can connect up to 5 displays depending on the chip in your Mac. To find out which chip your Mac has, choose Apple menu  > About This Mac.

(skipped to Mac with M1 or M2 information)

If you're using a Mac with the M1 or M2 chip:
• On MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini, you can connect one external display using either of the Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. On iMac, connect your display to either of the ports with the Thunderbolt symbol .
• On Mac mini, you can connect a second display to the HDMI port.
• Using docks or daisy-chaining devices doesn't increase the number of displays you can connect.

Also, for a good reference, here is the link for Adapters for the Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, or USB-C port on your Mac - Apple Support.

Take care!
