Recent call history showing two names or numbers

Hi! I just had a call with Apple support for this issue. Two things needed to be done:

1. clear out the recent call list by clicking ‘Edit’ (right top corner) then ‘Clear All.’
2. Apply the 16.0.2 update to iOS16.

This seems to have resolved this weird problem, but of course, I haven’t a clue as to for how long. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏾

Have you cleared the list and then restarted your phone? That did fix the issue for me.

I had the same issue. You must have saved the same contact twice. For me, i had the icloud and gmail contacts sync on at the same time which caused the duplication of the same contact. Disabling one of them solved the issue. Hope this helps 😊

Clear the list and restart your phone. It solved the problem for me.

I deleted my call history then restarted my phone and it seems to work.

The solution has been recommended a couple of times in this thread. You need to delete your entire Recents list and restart your phone.

You need to delete the entire call history, not just the doubled ones.

Did you completely clear the call list (not just the doubled entries)? Did you restart your phone after clearing your call list?

Nope, that's not the reason. It was a bug that has since been resolved. The numbers were unrelated and not always even in Contacts.

I've had iCloud, Gmail and generally a work account syncing contacts to my phone for, well, forever and never had this problem before or since. The iPhone is very good at linking contacts.

Not sure its fixed. I just moved to a new iphone 12 with ios 16.1 and have this same problem

I just updated my 11 to the iOS 16.1 and have the same issue with double up random calls. I’ve deleted my call history and that didn’t fix the issue. Very frustrating!
