USB-C to DVI-D Monitor not working on MacBook Pro 2019

So I want to connect my acer monitor to my macbook pro 2019. The problem is my acer monitor only has VGA and DVI-D inputs and no HDMI.

I bought a USB-C to DVI-D cable in the hope to connect my macbook to my monitor. When I connect the USB-C to my mac and the DVI-D to my monitor it says no signal. I've tried to put the USB-C in my Satechi adapter, and that adapter in my laptop but that doesn't work either.

The cable supports up to 4k resolution, my acer monitor only up to 1920x1080 (Full HD). My macbook pro is 2560x1600 but that shouldn't be the problem right?

Does anyone know what the problem is? My macbook is up to date to macOS Monterey 12.6.

I'd appreciate the help.

Cheers,

That is turning out to be a more frequent solution for all types of displays.

If you give the display a 'timeout' i.e., go sit in the corner with no power for a quarter hour -- it does an internal reset and may be more willing to 'play nice with others'.

As long as the resolution is not WIDER than 1920 wide (which yours is not) that should work as described, except:

to get a Mac display to become active, you need the Mac to query the display, and the display to answer with its name and capabilities. Otherwise, the display will not be shown as present, and no data will be sent to the display. "No signal detected" is generated by the DISPLAY, not by the Mac.

This query is only sent at certain times:

• at startup

• at wake from sleep — so momentarily sleeping and waking your Mac may work

• at insertion of the Mac-end of the display-cable, provided everything on that cable is ready-to-go

• on invoking Option-(Detect Display) button in Displays preferences (from another display)

so try doing some of those things and see if the display comes alive.

Hi Grant,

thanks a lot for your reply. I've tried all the things you've listed above but they don't seem to work.

Another thing which I think is weird is that there is nothing happening when I hold Option key in the Display preferences tab on my macbook. That should trigger the Detect Display button but it isn't. I read this problem is occurring since the introduction of MacOS Monterey...

Also there is no option to tick or untick the mirror display box because I can't seem to find this option anywhere in the Display preferences tab.

I find it really frustrating that such things are not operating properly while Apple is claiming these things are working with MacOS Monterey.

Is there anything I can do to make DVI-D work with my MacBook Pro 2019? When I searched the serial number on support.apple.com/specs it says my MacBook Pro is compatible with DVI-D.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
