My brand new iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera is blurry whenever attempting to take close up pictures in 3rd party apps like Amazon, Target, Walmart (ie barcode scans). Phone is brand new out the box, updated to latest iOS (16.0.2), and have reinstalled the apps.
Anyone else with this issue?

All I can say is I've had iPhones for over 10 years and I've never had the issues with the camera, both native and third-party apps and accessing the camera as I've had now with the new iPhone 14 Pro. Look at the picture attached. I made it this morning using the native camera unfortunately due to the focal distance, the iPhone could not figure out which camera to use and kept switching back-and-forth and ended up with a blurry picture. That is an issue with the iOS that did not exist before this version of the iPhone. I am seriously considering going back to an iPhone 13 as the issues did not exist with that phone.
My iPhone 14 Pro with 16.1.1, can focus down to about 4 inch in third party apps, in 16.0.2 it was about 15-20 inch.. /Richard
Can you try with the Walmart app? Does that switch cameras on your phone now?
I continue to have this issue across the board (all previously mentioned apps). On 16.1.1.
If this is not an iOS issue, then it is on Apple to get developers to remediate ASAP.
Above my head, I just want it to work as previous models did. Let’s hope Apple are all over this!
4” 100m is about right here too for reading using 3rd party apps.. At supermarket not it’s about 8-10inch to read the bar code
If the Waitrose app is having issues while other apps I have listed are not, it's Waitrose that must fix their app.
The camera doesn't switch but it does work properly to scan, that's the key.
Try it with Apple‘s „Code Scanner“, which you can put to your control center, if it is not there yet. This is no Third party app - but doesn’t work neither.

It’s working exactly as intended and is completely functional.
I stated earlier, it works wonderfully.
Move the phone further away from the bar code and it will be read even if you think it’s too small.
With such a small and hollow object, it may be focusing on the background instead.
You may want to try tapping the screen to refocus.
My new iPhone 14 front and back camera can’t take anything clear up close also, so blurry. My old iPhone 7 camera works better than the new one.
It isn’t a worse lens than the iPhone 7, but the old one does focus really well when I’m taking a selfie. But the new one only focusing on the back, not my face, even though I’m tapping to refocus.
The background was less than 6 inches from the object. Also, never had this issue with my iPhone 12 or 13.
