Through much trial and error AND frustration. I somehow got it working properly by NOT connecting it to my IPhone but to my iPad Pro first. Every other solution was not viable until I did this and it has been working fine since.
Is there an actual way to fix that and get U1 chip functionality to work?
i can’t ping my case, i can’t precisely track it and more
I got rid from missmatched and not finished errors, but U1 chip functions is still unusable
I too experienced this issue but was able to resolve it. Here’s what worked for me:
After the initial set up, go into the AirPod settings and forget the device. Without resetting the AirPods, simply open the case and connect them to your device again via the Bluetooth settings. Find My now works properly.

Look for them the old-fashioned way. Go to where you saw them last and look. Retrace your steps. Check in at lost & founds and reception desks in places you've been. Look in the pockets of all the close you've worn since the last time you remember having them. Look between the sofa cushions and under the seat in the car. If there are any small children in your life, ask them if they might have seen (i.e. "have been playing with" )them.
Followed those instructions before posting. Also filled the reset AirPod instructions. Neither worked.

Just got my AirPods Pro Gen 2 and connected them to my iPhone 12 mini running iOS 16.0.3. Getting the "incomplete setup ..." in Find my.

See Grant Avery solution above dated Oct 5. That solution worked for me! I toggled off and on the 'find my network' tab inside AirPods settings. Thanks.
