Why does Apple not accept 2021 MacBookPro 14" for trade in?

I purchased a MacBookPro 14" with the M1 Pro CPU in 2021. I would like to purchase a new MacBookPro 13" with the M2 chip now, and would like to trade in my MBPro14. But the trade-in process:

Who built it? Apple

Serial Number A1B234RCD56

Model: MacBookPro

Year: (see attached picture)

Why is there no "2021"? My "About this Mac" dialog claims: "MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021)"

PowerOn and itsworthmore.com both allow me to select my specific computer (MBPro, 14", M1, 2021) and give me a quote. But not . Apparently Apple doesn't want to take any back.

I prefer trading in my Apple machines to Apple directly. Perhaps I should rethink that.

Thanks,

Karl

I noticed that same statement in a couple of other posts, so I can only assume it’s true and haz a sad.

However, Apple’s Refurbished/Clearance page shows a number of 2021 M1 MBPro 14” laptops available for purchase - which means they’re either all returns or something went wrong. Mine is in perfect working condition, which Apple would be able to determine, so why not accept them as returns? But maybe Apple is just the middle-man for trade-ins? But then the decision whether to payout for the trade-in isn’t in Apple’s hands?

Given that the M2 MBPros are available Now for in-store pickup, I don’t consider it “recently released” (It’s been a year) although I guess it would qualify as a “current model”.

I still haz a sad 😫

We can't speculate on Apple's corporate decisions. And, depending on the location, there are trade in partner companies. The point is: you will get an immediate amount, but if you mail it in, that may or may not be the final offer. You are much better off selling it yourself and Fox Fifth gave you a link to a good one. They pay cash.

Apple does not accept any Macintosh computers currently for sale through their trade-in programs.

--------

'Apple refurbished' are unlike ANY other computers for sale anywhere.

Their condition is PRISTINE. They are essentially re-manufactured, and upgraded to the SAME standards as new, and provided with essentially the same warranty as new.
