airpods pro w/ Wless charging case not sending texts but waits to listen

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. It is updated to the latest software, 16.0.2, my 1st gen AirPods Pro with wireless charging case are also on the latest version 4E71. I since iOS 16, my AirPods Pro will pause and listen for me to talk out a whole response to whomever just messaged me. It only happens with talk to respond. When I am done speaking, with or without music playing from Apple Music, it will not send or even register a message. It’s the right AirPod I usually use, the left also does it. I tested it to make sure. I have checked all settings that I could find that could be preventing it. Hey Siri works, and then I have to ask it to text whomever back, and also, it no longer reads back the message? I work with glass, I do NOT depend on those features, but it was nice of when I was listening to music I could just start talking, but now none of those features are working for my AirPods Pro. Is this because iOS 16, maybe? If not, who knows what to do? Thank you very much.

killswitch896.,

Thanks for clarifying that. Let's have you try resetting your AirPods. This may address the issue you're facing: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

"How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro

You might need to reset your AirPods if they won't charge, or to fix a different issue.

  1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case.
  4. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth, or Settings > [your AirPods], and tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods. If you don't see your AirPods in Settings > Bluetooth or in Settings > [your AirPods], just go to the next step.
  5. Tap Forget This Device, and tap again to confirm.
  6. With the lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*

7. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Follow the steps on your device's screen."

Let us know how that goes.

Thanks.

Greetings killswitch896,

It sounds like you’re using Siri to send text messages and want to send a text without saying ‘Hey Siri’. Do we have that right? Are you summoning Siri by pressing the Siri button?

Let’s also have you check to make sure the following settings are enabled or disabled, depending on your preferences - Listen and respond to messages with AirPods

Thanks.

Hello AnnieL2, thank you for your response!

Not quite what I mean. In iOS 15, when I received a text message, I utilized the feature and would start talking my message to Siri after it would read the message out. When I would be done speaking, it would take a second, assume I am done, then it would re-read the message that it understood that I had said. I work in front of a massive fan, so it would not always understand me correctly, after it would read my message, only then it would ask, Do you want to send it, or change it? If I would change it, it would still re-read my message to me! It don’t do that anymore. It don’t read my messages back to me. It just asks, until you do or don’t, Do you want to change it, or send it? Then it recommends to me to turn on Automatic message sending with Siri and AirPods, to send messages faster.
