AirPods (2nd Gen) Pro - Microphone not working when paired over Bluetooth with Dell Latitude 5421 / Windows 11

I have successfully paired my AirPods (2nd Gen) Pro with my desktop computer running Windows 10 and mic worked fine over bluetooth. But when pairing with my Dell Latitude 5421 with Windows 11, I get audio fine and it shows me the AirPods as an audio input, but no signal. I have tried removing/re-adding, checking to ensure drivers are up to date, levels are up, etc., but still nothing. Anyone else with a similar problem? Other things I can check?

connect the airpods to the laptop

go into device manager and to menu view and then set show hidden devices to be checked

remove all devices in the device manager under Audio inputs and outputs that relate to Airpods.

close device manager

go to bluetooth and remove your airpods from bluetooth

shut off your computer

do a hard reset on the airpods

boot up computer and pair the airpods

Hey Folks,

I have this same issue as well. Brand new Airpods Pro 2 with Dell Latitude laptop running Windows 11. I tried following all of the steps mentioned herein as well as on other site, i.e. removing Airpods from Windows Device Manager, Windows Bluetooth > Paired Devices, resetting Airpods Pro 2, rebooting pc and then pairing afresh. It works each time I do this, but only for that session on the pc. The moment I reboot it, the problem recurs.

It is extremely frustrating having to do this every single time upon restart. My system is fully up-to-date with all Windows Updates + Dell Drivers/Bios/System Updates. So far it doesn't appear that there has been a solution released by Windows/Apple.

I'll keep researching this issue, and circle back here in case I find anything different. If anybody has an answer to this, it'd be great if they can please share.

Had this issue, noticed my webcam mic has been kicking over than my airpods. I could hear but not speak with airpods... Here what I did to fix mine.

System> sound > input section, select you webcam, and click the "don't allow" button as a microphone. This will then default your airpods to be the only input device. Let me know if this helps!

Hi mplunkett86,

We can recommend resetting the AirPods as outline here:

"How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro

You might need to reset your AirPods if they won't charge, or to fix a different issue.

  1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case.
  4. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth, or Settings > [your AirPods], and tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods. If you don't see your AirPods in Settings > Bluetooth or in Settings > [your AirPods], just go to the next step.
  5. Tap Forget This Device, and tap again to confirm.
  6. With the lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*
  7. AirPods charging cases

  8. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Follow the steps on your device's screen.

AirPods can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use AirPods (3rd generation) or AirPods Pro (1st or 2nd generation) that someone else has used, they first need to remove the AirPods from their Apple ID."

However, AirPods are compatible with iOS and Mac devices. While they will work as a generic Bluetooth accessory with other types of devices, some features may not work as expected.

Take care.

no. You need to go into the device manager. Show all devices. Then remove all of the AirPod Pro drivers from the device manager. Then remove the device from Bluetooth hard reset airpods, reboot and then add it back again to Bluetooth. there’s also a Reddit thread under r/AirPods that discusses this.
